Black Diamond/PIEPS have confirmed that an issue was noted with the battery housing on one affected device; the fault caused the transceiver to lose contact with the batteries inserted, the transceiver then failing to turn on – or turning off when in service – as a result. This recall is off the back of one single reported incident, with no injuries or fatalities associated with this issue.
Users of the PIEPS PRO IPS can return the affected unit to Black Diamond/PIEPS for a full repair, with the brand committed to returning the unit to users within seven days of receiving it. Details of the returns process, as well as full details of the recall, can be found on the PIEPS website here.
PIEPS have detailed the units affected by this recall. This includes PIEPS PRO IPS units manufactured and sold between 1 October 2023 and 22 November 2024, and having serial numbers starting with the first four digits between 2326 and 2445.
