A must-have in our top 10 French ski resorts list is the ever-popular Tignes. Combined with neighbouring ski resort Val d’Isere, there’s an impressive 300km of slopes to explore. The terrain in the area ranges from gentle green runs for beginners to advanced steep off-piste faces. It has an altitude of 1550m – 3456m, making it one of the most reliable ski resorts for snow conditions.
The Ski Club itself has a great presence in Tignes with many Freshtracks holidays located there. There is also a dedicated Ski Club Rep throughout the season in Tignes, facilitating social skiing and in-resort get-togethers.
Located in the famous Three Valleys ski area, Val Thorens has so much to offer skiers of all abilities. It is the highest ski resort in Europe with an altitude of 1450m-3230m, making it super reliable for good snow conditions. If you get a full Three Valleys lift pass you can access 600km of slopes with neighbouring Meribel, Les Menuires and St Martin de Belleville all linked. One of the most connected skiing in France!
Ski Club members have been part of the local scene in Val Thorens throughout club history. There is a Ski Club Rep available throughout the season to link members together on and off the slopes. Les Arcs is considered one of the best ski resorts in France because of its modern infrastructure and excellent variety of slopes. The resort is popular with families and beginners, particularly in the Arc 1800 area. On bad weather days, the treelined runs are a saviour to get decent visibility still. There’s also great value accommodation to choose from.
It was the first time in years that a Ski Club Rep was in Les Arcs, after launching the service in France for the 23/24 season. Ski Club members have loved meeting up in the resort and enjoying social skiing together. Les Arcs is also a popular destination on the Ski Club Freshtracks calendar with instruction weeks for those who want to improve their turns on the piste.
Part of the Grand Massif, Flaine offers incredible ski-in ski-out slopes and brilliant off piste opportunities. The area has 265km of slopes to enjoy with Samoens, Les Carroz and Morillon connected. It also has the bonus of being close to Geneva, so transfer times from the airport are more favourable than other French resorts.
Flaine is home to the Ski Club Freshtracks chalet, with an array of holidays with top-class instructors and mountain guides. Club members have come together in Flaine for many years and return in the hundreds each season. In addition, there is a Ski Club Rep in Flaine to bring members together to ski and enjoy après. Meribel is one of the best-loved French ski resorts with UK skiers. It is part of the Three Valleys ski area, so there are 600km of slopes to explore with a full area lift pass. There is a great selection of chalet accommodation in the area, which has recently been hard to come by. If you love lively après there are plenty of bars in the village and on the slopes. The Portes du Soleil area is on the French-Swiss border and has incredible varied ski terrain. Morzine is the most popular of the connecting resorts of Avoriaz, Les Gets, Champéry and Châtel, and has excellent access to 600km of slopes. The town itself has kept it’s alpine authenticity with vintage architecture with a modern touch. There’s plenty of restaurants and bars to enjoy off the slopes.
Ski Club members can now meet with a Ski Club Rep for social skiing. Meet with fellow members and enjoy the Morzine ski area together. The Reps are also on hand to help with bookings, piste and weather info or any recommendations of the area. A top resort to visit if you’re skiing in France.
Courchevel is renowned for its luxury hotels and 5-star restaurants. The rich and famous regularly visit each winter and there’s a lively nightlife scene. However, if you don’t stay in the 1850 area, there’s plenty of varied accommodation for different budgets. It is part of the Three Valleys ski area with 600km of slopes to ski if you have a full lift pass. Top class on and off the slopes! One of the more luxurious ski resorts in France.
The local area has a good mix of tree-lined slopes below the resort and wide, open runs above it. The Ski Club Experiences sessions are also available in Courchevel. There’s a reason why professional skiers from around the world regularly visit Chamonix, it is home to some of the most challenging off piste terrain. There are also 173km of marked pistes to explore too. The ski area is mostly suited to advanced skiers, with not many beginner runs. Off the slopes, there is a very lively après scene with many bars and clubs to choose from.
Chamonix is home to a Ski Club Freshtacks chalet, which is the hub for many ski holidays throughout the season. Ski Club members in their hundreds visit Chamonix to improve their off piste or all-mountain skills with some of the best ski instructors and mountain guides in the area.
Les Deux Alpes boasts access to 200km of slopes with the connecting resort of La Grave nearby. The skiing is mostly suited to beginner or intermediate skiers but it also has a big freestyle scene with plenty of snow parks. There are several affordable accommodation in the town and excellent clubs and bars to enjoy. It also has a glacier and great altitude so it has great snow reliability.

Val d’Isere rounds off the best French ski resorts list and is one of the most visited ski resorts in the world. It has 300km of marked slopes with connected resort Tignes with varied level of pistes to explore. It also has superb off-piste opportunities too, with drop-ins like Banane, Le Fornet, Le Grand Vallon and Col Pers. In addition, to great off piste there are some of the most challenging black runs such as La Sache, Foret and The Face.
