Britain’s first World Cup gold medal ever. The bright red gondolas on the Hahnenkamm now feature Dave’s name amongst the prestigious list of winners on the Streif race course. Why not aim for World Cup weekend again and see if the British team can re-create some of this magic, and experience the unique thrill of a quiet Austrian village brought to life by race weekend? Covering 185km of marked pistes – topped up by an additional 45km of marked ski routes – Kitzbühel has a surprisingly large ski area. Of course there is the infamous Streif Downhill course and some great steep terrain amongst the woods, but in reality this is a great resort for intermediates looking to put some miles under their belts. You really feel a sense of travelling when you ski from one end to the other and getting around is quick and easy thanks to the impressive lift system.
The town of Kitzbühel is as picturesque as it gets and the sense of history is clear. Wandering around the pedestrianised town centre within the old city walls is a great experience and it is certainly different to most ski resorts.
Stay in the middle if possible to experience the resort at its best and make the most of the numerous cafes, shops, bars and restaurants littered around the centre.
With so much to explore, the best way to experience Kitz is using the advice of your Ski Club Rep – they’re on hand from January until March this winter. You can also join the Kitzbühel group on the Ski Club App, home of our Reps and Members in resort this winter and the place to organise your day’s skiing! And before you go, join our Kitzbühel Facebook Page for the very latest updates from the resort and to arrange some ski buddies for your trip.
Over €280 million has been spent since 2000 upgrading the resort and it really shows. The extensive main area of slopes includes the villages of Kirchberg and Jochberg to form a fantastic area of linked slopes, most of which are tree- lined and backed up by snowmaking. A 3S gondola links the Hahnenkamm area with Resterhöhe at the far end of the resort – making this trip well worth it for the sense of travel and to ride the impressive lift system. The smaller Kitzbüheler Horn sector lies on the opposite side off the valley, and offers some good cruisey terrain and long runs back to town.
The sizeable and largely car-free medieval centre – with its quaint church, cobbled streets and attractive buildings – is not your typical ski resort but it makes for a compelling place to stay. There is lots to do and a great choice of restaurants and accommodation, but the resort does spread widely so be prepared to walk to the lifts or to jump on a bus.
Kitzbühel is rather spread out and can be busy, so is not completely ideal for families. However, there is a lot to do off the slopes including ice skating, tobogganing and swimming at the impressive Aquarena.
As the lifts close, the Streifalm bar at the foot of the slopes is popular, whilst beers are usually flowing at the Stamperl and Londoner in town. If you really want to party, then visit during the Hahnenkamm Downhill weekend, when tens of thousands of ski racing fans descend on the town for one of Austria’s wildest weekends.

Our Snow Overviews are updated bi-weekly between the start of December and early May every season, providing summaries of snowfall, weather, avalanche risk and other noteworthy meteorological events to help you prepare for your skiing holiday. Check back next winter to stay up-to-date on the latest weather happenings in resort.
Your Ski Club Reps are in resort for one reason only; to help you discover better skiing. They are your personal resort gurus, with years of experience skiing here and around the world, who will bring you and your fellow Members together to conquer the mountain! Stay up to date with everything in resort, find the best spots for an après beer, and ski to your heart’s content.
Our Reps will be in resort between 28 December 2024 and 21 March 2025, skiing six days a week – Reps’ day off/changeover day is Saturday in this resort. We are making changes to how registration to ski with the Club in resort works. Thank you for your patience whilst we undertake these updates to the registration process.
I have been lucky enough to have been skiing from a very early age, coming from good Austrian/Cornish stock; I spent my early winter years on the mountains surrounding Innsbruck learning and perfecting my falling with style technique. Since then I have had a couple of years racing, and qualified as an instructor, while serving in the army. Squeezed in 5 seasons working as an instructor/guide in Kitzbuhel , perfected the game of nails and acquired a taste for schnapps. My passion for skiing and the mountains has never diminished. As a Rep I look forward to sharing this passion and enthusiasm with others who feel the same...
I started skiing in my late twenties and got hooked. I have skied in lots of different resorts all over Europe, often using my varied travels to seek out new places. I became a ski leader in 2015 and I plan to ski with lots of members over the coming years. Outside of the winter months my main hobbies include driving my veteran cars and keeping fit, often doing running events for charities. As for work, well I am an interim executive, which means I go in to businesses and help run them for a period of time, often being called in when things need turning around. These assignments take me all over the world. Thanks for checking out my profile and I look forward to skiing with anyone who wants a great time out on the slopes.
I learned to ski in a field, most of the time was spent walking up but I loved it all the same. Nowadays I like exploring remote parts of resorts, visiting favourite restaurants and generally being in the mountains. Kitzbuhel is a charming, friendly, medieval town with a huge variety of skiing. I'll be there from 25 Jan to 7 Feb 2025, my 7th season in Kitzbuehel. For skiing we'll meet at 9.30 on Sundays outside the main entrance to the Hahnenkamm lift. I'll be in a bright red jacket. After that it'll usually be 9am with time/place and social plans depending on conditions etc. Please register in advance if possible. New members welcome.
I became a Ski Club rep in Dec 2023 having started skiing in 1983, enjoying Freshtracks holidays and learning to ski off-piste with Yann and Diane in Flaine. I am passionate about being in the mountains and have skied many resorts in France, Austria, Italy and Bulgaria. To heli ski in North America is still on my bucket list. When I am not skiing you will find me mountain biking, walking and playing on the sea.
I am excited about the season ahead and meeting and skiing with fellow members!
I've been skiing since I was 12 and have skied through out Europe and Scotland. I love skiing through out the mountains whether it's cruising on blues or more adventurous blacks as I just love being on the snow and in the mountains. I'm recently retired from 30 years in the fire service so when I'm not skiing then I'm back home to Yorkshire to carry on life in the Yorkshire dales
I remember my 1st day on skis vividly ; Glenshee, blowing a hooley, white out conditions, 8 yrs old & completely hooked ! Since then I've skied in many worldwide resorts; France, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, USA & Canada. My favourite resorts are St Gervais (of course!), Val d'Isere, Pila, Zermatt, Sunshine Village, Aspen and Jackson Hole. My love for sliding took me into instructor training and qualified as a Ski Instructor over 20 yrs ago. When I lived in Aberdeen I volunteered with Aberdeen Snowsports Club - where I was Chairperson - and organised various Snowsports Events both on the dry mat and in the Highlands. I also competed in our home grown SSBX (Scottish Ski & Boarder Cross) Championships and why my favourite 'off duty' ski resort pastime is Skier-X racing.
I now live in a beautiful French town in the Alps called St Gervais. I love Ski Touring via hut to hut mountain refuges where I've skied the best snow of my life. Oh and I love mountain biking, hiking and tennis. I'm so excited for the season to start as I'm Repping in Wengen, Switzerland before Christmas and then as a Backcountry Rep in Chamonix, France in April.
