The slopes up to 2100m above the resort are pretty and tree-lined, offering great protection in bad weather and good terrain for those looking to develop their skills.
There is great learning zones in the valley and several long greens and blues above. Further up, above the treeline there’s a good mix of mostly blue and red terrain, but very few blacks and fairly limited steep terrain for off piste skiers. The lift system is generally good and has seen decent upgrades in recent years, plus there are further plans to expand the lift network in the coming years.
The resort itself is actually a collection of five villages in the valley, linked by lifts above and a bus service down below. Termignon is the further west, with Lanslebourg and Lanslevillard the two biggest – you will want to base yourself here for the widest variety of accommodation, quickest access to the slopes and the liveliest evenings after skiing. Prices are generally very affordable here too. Geneva is your nearest airport, with the transfer taking around 2.5 hours.

Ski Club Recognised: Environmentally Sustainable Resort
The Ski Club uses third party independent assessments and accreditation of ski resorts to determine a resort “environmentally sustainable” – more information can be found here.
As part of the French Flocon Vert (tr. Green Snowflake) scheme, Val Cenis has been awarded one snowflake out of a possible three, representing investment in resources to reduce its environmental impact. Flocon Vert is an independent scheme operated by Mountain Riders, which accredits resorts in France who have met twenty criteria based on environmental, social and economic sustainability.

High pressure dominates over most of Europe this week, thanks to the Jetstream forming a strong barrier along the west cost of Ireland, the UK and Norway. As a result, plenty of sun and fine, dry and bright conditions will be story of the week from now until the end of the weekend.
Things will remain cold, however, with a freezing line camping out at around 1,000m, occasionally peaking to 2,000m in the midday sun. Daytime highs of -5°C can be expected at 2,000m, occasionally slipping into positive temperatures throughout the week.
This barrier is broken as the weekend comes to a conclusion, with more unsettled weather moving in over the course of the new week – it is still to far out to see what affect this may have.
