The ski area is very underrated, with 73km of slopes
the longest is 11km long – and 11 lifts to access varied terrain, most of which lies above the treeline. The lift system is good, with recent investment improving access from the valley, but boarders should be aware that the Piz Cartas area is served only by draglifts, but this shouldn’t stop you visiting.
Savognin is located on the road between Chur and St Moritz so is often passed up by many visitors. The resort is small and compact, with an attractive centre, albeit it cut through by the road heading towards St Moritz. There’s a good selection of hotels and restaurants to choose from and off the slopes, winter walking through the valley is a popular activity and tobogganing is big here – there’s a great network of trails above the village.

Getting to Savognin
Sauze d’Oulx is one of the most accessible resorts in the Alps and can be reached in around an hour from Turin airport. Private transfers are therefore good value, especially if you can share lifts. The resort is also only ten minutes from the train station at Oulx – which itself is around an hour and a half from Turin airport. Other airport options include Milan, Geneva, Lyon, Grenoble and Chambery – all of which are between two to three hours away by road.

Spring conditions return after last week’s snow, with overnight freeze followed by daytime thaw. The freezing line peaks at close to 3,000m as the weekend begins during the daytime sun, but this drops off over the course of the new week until daytime highs stay below 2,000m – even as low as 1,500m in the East – and the overnight curve flattens.
This pattern will continue for most of next week. Over next weekend and into the following week, more unsettled weather is then forecast to move in, bringing with it some more snow along the way – it remains a little too far ahead in time to predict with any certainty when and how much this will be.
