If you're looking for easy access to a less well-known, but large Austrian ski area, then Hochfügen is a great option.
With ski-in-ski-out access to the linked slopes with neighbouring Kaltenbach, there’s also maximum convenience and thanks to the resort’s altitude of almost 1500m, it is one the the most snowsure resorts in the region. The terrain tends to favour intermediate skiers and boarders, but there’s good beginner terrain immediately above the village and decent steeper terrain across on the way to Kaltenbach. Whilst travelling across you’ll also notice the quality of the lifts – the lift system is one of the best around.
The village itself is quiet and pretty small, but there is the alternative to stay down in Fügen too if you’re after more variety on the accommodation, food and bar front. Keep an eye out too on the latest developments in the coming months as there are well-developed plans to link the resort by lift to the local slopes of Fügen, expanding the ski area further.

Spring conditions close out this week with overnight freeze being met by daytime thaw – the freezing line swings between 3,000m and 2,000m in many places.
Things turn much cooler as the new week begins, with the freezing line dropping to around 1,500, and even as low as 500m on the south side of the Main Alpine Ridge. In some parts, especially in these same cold areas, a few flurries of snowfall will land across the area.
More generally unsettled conditions will the move in over next weekend and into the following week, promising more snow – when, where and how much remains uncertain this far out.
