Winter Delays Expected on Key Austrian Transfer

The A10 Autobahn, one of the major routes running south from Salzburg and Salzburg Airport, will be severely restricted as a result of scheduled maintenance to a series of tunnels between Golling and Werfen.

Scheduled maintenance is being carried out on the stretch of Autobahn from Spring 2023 until Summer 2025.

Alternative routes are available through the area including a local non-motorway alignment that follows the same route between the two villages. This does mean that delays can be kept to a minimum. However, due to the increase in traffic on local roads as a result of disruption, severe delays at busy times will be inevitable this winter.

Alpine Connect Transfers, who operate along the route regularly, have already seen delays of up to three hours on the route during Summer operations.

Favourite Ski Resorts Impacted

Resorts directly impacted by these closures include Bad Kleinkirchheim, Nassfeld and Schladming; there are few alternative routes available during A10 closures.

Some of the Club’s favourite resorts stand to be impacted by delays “trickling down” from these closures. Saalbach Hinterglemm, Bad Hofgastein and Zell am See, amongst others, will see delays as traffic from the A10 seeks alternative routes to avoid closures. Many Members travel to these resorts as part of our Freshtracks Holiday programme and to ski with our dedicated Ski Club Reps.

Travellers Thanked for Patience

Transfer companies and the Ski Club would like to thank travellers in advance for their patience throughout delays this winter.

Updates can be found on the A10 construction website – in German – available here.
