A gondola and a chairlift rise up from the valley at 700m to the Chalet d'Claire, which opens up the entire Grand Massif network of slopes.
That being said, beginners in particular may not even leave the local ski area, which is home to a good selection of greens and blues, offering very nice terrain for progression. More adventurous skiers should head across to the wide open Flaine bowl to perfect their off piste skills or to the the long Coulouvrier chairlift (installed in 2018/19) which opened up almost 1000m of tree-lined terrain above the village of Morillon itself.
Staying down in the valley means you might not be able to ski down at the end of the day, but you get a traditional village with good facilities and quick access to the slopes. The closer to the gondola you stay the better, or if you’re looking for maximum convenience, the small satellite village of Morillon 1100 has easier access to the slopes and some family-friendly, slopeside accommodation. The quick access from Geneva (transfers typically take an hour) makes Morillon a great option for a weekend trip.

Settled conditions linger over the French Alps for the rest of this week, with plenty of sun and fine, dry and bright conditions in store. Spring conditions will be the theme of the week, with cool conditions overnight helped by a freezing line sitting around 1,000m. This will rise in the midday sun, hitting 2,000m and occasionally poking above later in the week.
Low pressure over the northern Alps influences weather patterns over the northern French Alps, bringing snow with it, too. Around 10cm will fall overnight Friday into Saturday, bringing around 10cm to the highest slopes above 2,000m. This will be accompanied by cooling daytime conditions but rising winds, moving snow about on the surface; -6°C can be expected at Saturday lunchtime.
More settled conditions then return to the region, bringing with it next week similar patterns to this.
