On Snow Experience

On this holiday you will spend three days skiing with mountain guides exploring the area. This weekend often involves some ski touring, so take your own kit if you have it as the selection locally is limited, but it is possible to hire. There are a number of options and routes for the guides to take you on this holiday, the choice of which will be determined by the best snow conditions and abilities of the group and taxis may be required to get the groups to/from nearby areas. On the final day you are free to choose whether to ski the morning locally before heading back to the airport. The transfer will leave resort at approximately 1pm, so there’s certainly time for a few runs!

Guiding has always been my full time job since 2008. Based in Cortina D'Ampezzo with my wife and our 2 daughters, I take my clients climbing and skiing all over the Alps and beyond.

Skiing is my great passion in the winter, expecially around the Sella Massif and Cortina area. I'm looking forward to showing you the best lines around my backyard!

I have been on snow since the age of 2 when I began exploring Argentiere, mostly clinging to my parents' legs as I bumbled along! Since then I have improved somewhat, having skied with family, raced on the FIS circuit and volunteered as a Ski Club Leader for the last 5 years, including being awarded 'Young Leader of the Year' in 2013.

Moving away from technical on-piste skiing I now hunt out as much off-piste as possible and really enjoy finding new routes and conquering other parts of the mountain. Most of all I love being able to share my enthusiasm and enjoyment of the sport with others who feel the same. At the end of the day it's all about having fun. Originally from the Isle of Arran, I then moved to London to pursue my architectural career and now work in Bath leading a fantastic Lido restoration project.

As a Ski Club Rep I am hoping to follow in my father David's footsteps and enjoy sharing time in the mountains with great people for many years to come...

  • San Martino is a resort that previously favoured intermediates, but it has a growing reputation as an under-the-radar freeride destination.

The local slopes are split into three – each base lift is a short bus ride away from the town itself. In resort, there is a good selection of bars, restaurants and local shops, although it is generally quiet. The scenery more than makes up for this and its impossible not to be taken by the breathtaking surroundings.
Ski Club Freshtracks are heading out to the resort to make the most of the underrated freeride terrain in the company of local mountain guides.

    Pros and cons

    • Underrated freeride terrain
    • Spectacular scenery
    • Varied slopes across the three areas
    • Limited extent to the local slopes
    • All lift bases a bus ride from town
    • Few on piste challenges for advanced and expert skiers

    Hotel Regina

The 4* Hotel Regina offers traditional, elegant accommodation, centrally located only a short distance from the slopes with a free shuttle bus for the journey. You’ll be staying 4 nights, half board in twin share accommodation. On site there is a large heated pool and wellness centre, including an in and outdoor hot tub, Turkish bath and fitness area. Each room has a balcony, TV and minibar. This holiday is on a twin share basis. If you are a solo traveller, then you will be placed in a room with someone of the same gender. Single rooms may be available upon request. These are subject to our hotel room allowance. If you require a single room, please book early to avoid disappointment.

It is a condition of booking that you have valid and adequate snowsports insurance. It is your responsibility to ensure your policy provides cover for all the activities that you participate in during your holiday.

We offer a Ski Club Insurance policy which provides the cover we require for all bookings. This policy can be found here: Ski Club Travel Insurance – Ski Club Of Great Britain

If you decide to purchase insurance elsewhere, it is your responsibility to ensure that your policy provides cover as that of the Ski Club Insurance policy. The policy of insurance should provide cover for personal injury, death, medical and repatriation costs in the countries which you intend to visit, together with cover for loss of baggage and valuables, personal liability, delay, cancellation, curtailment, missed departure and legal expenses. The policy should also include cover against losses caused by the effects or consequences of Covid-19.

Due to the type of holidays that you will be booking with us, we also advise that your policy should include skiing off-piste without a guide. Please note, insurance premiums must be paid at the same time as booking in order for the package holiday or single service cancellation cover to be effective. It is also advised to keep your insurance details with you while you are on your holiday. If you choose to travel without adequate insurance cover, we will not be liable for any losses howsoever arising, in respect of which insurance cover would otherwise have been available.

Passport – Check your passport is in date and valid for travel by checking the entry requirements for your destination country – you can see these here: Foreign travel advice – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

For most European destinations your passport should:

    • have a ‘date of issue’ less than 10 years before the date you arrive – if you renewed your passport before 1 October 2018, it may have a date of issue that is more than 10 years ago
    • have an ‘expiry date’ at least 3 months after the date you plan to leave the Schengen area

Check your passport meets these requirements before you travel.

NB: Starting in 2025 (Date TBC) travel authorisation will be required to travel withing Europe – find out more here ETIAS (europa.eu)

When venturing off piste, it is compulsory to wear an avalanche transceiver. These can be provided by the Ski Club and should be worn by every person on every all mountain, off piste and touring holiday. Anyone joining these holidays will also be required to bring their own backpack, shovel and probe.
