Reg Favell

I have been skiing for over 35 years and attended the Leaders Course in 1992. Since then I have led Ski Club groups in many countries but mainly Austria in recent years. This year will be my 15th season in Obergurgl and I am looking forward to seeing many old friends and making new ones. I love the mountain environment and walking in the mountains in the summer. I also play tennis in between my many holidays since early retirement. I've also started doing Zumba and Salsa Aerobics exercise classes in preparation for the Nederhutte!

I love the outdoors, and the combination of snow and mountains creates a special attraction. For many years I have introduced friends and family to skiing, helping them to develop and share in a great sport and environment. I saw being a Rep as a chance to meet new people, make friends, and share this passion. My other passion is rugby, which I played for over 30 years, and have also coached and refereed. I also enjoy scuba diving, which I have pursued in many countries, and one of the most interesting was an ice-dive at Tignes-le-lac.

Ceri Riddle

Growing up in Europe, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to ski way back in the 70s.

I have skied in many of the European resorts, and as a rep, love to pass on that knowledge and passion to all.

Outside of skiing, if I’m not paddleboarding off the N Wales coast, you may spot me in a film or drama as a TV ‘extra’.

Grew up in Tenby West Wales with early years very much focused on water based activities. Had the opportunity to go on a school Ski Trip when I was 15 and immediately bonded with Mountains. Spent 30 plus years addicted to Mountain Biking and that evolved into Hiking & Running. Enjoy nothing more than summer trekking in The Alps with the odd change of scenery in North/South America. Based in Cardiff have the fantastic Brecon Beacons on the doorstep to explore and enjoy. My real buzz has always been skiing and having extensive experience of Europe and North America I absolutely relish every day I can get out on the snow.

Fortunate enough to live and work on the edge of the Lake District I’m never far away from a mountain! Although beautiful, Cumbria’s are usually lacking on the snow front! I spend my summers running an event hire company which is pretty much 24/7, but that means I can spend most of the winter skiing so it’s not all bad, I love meeting like minded people, fresh powder, blue skies & hunting out that best run of the day.

  • With almost the entire ski area located above 2000m and a robust snowmaking system, Obergurgl boasts one of the longest and most reliable seasons in the Alps.

The terrain is above the tree-line and favours beginner and intermediate skiers, but there is some good off piste to explore for more advanced skiers. Obergurgl is one of the most popular resorts with Ski Club members and Ski Club holidays to the resort usually sell out well in advance so make sure to get booking early!  Our Ski Club Rep Service will be operating in Obergurgl this season. Join the Rep for a drink during the nightly social hour at the Hotel Edelweiss and Gurgl between December and April this season. Find our Reps on the Ski Club App, home of all things Obergurgl this winter and the best place to organise your day’s skiing!

Why not also check out the Ski Club’s Obergurgl Facebook Page, a vibrant community of over 150 like-minded skiers and snowboarders.

A large and sunny resort with perfectly groomed wide open slopes, Obergurgl is a haven for on piste skiers of almost every ability.

    Pros and cons

    • One of the most snowsure ski areas in the world with a very long season
    • Excellent area for beginners, timid intermediates and families
    • Very few queues and almost exclusively fast lifts
    • Quiet, chalet-style village with little traffic and good hotels
    • Slightly limited area of slopes, but can access other resorts in Ötztal Valley
    • Exposed above the trees so not ideal in bad weather
    • Not a great area for experts unless there is fresh snow
    • Little going on later at night

    Edelweiss & Gurgl

The luxurious 4* Edelweiss and Gurgl is the original village hotel that overlooks the main square on one side and the slopes on the other. The village was built around the hotel and the small 18th century church beside it, so the location is about as central as it gets. You will be catered for on a half board basis. This holiday is on a single occupancy basis. You will therefore be placed in a room on your own for the duration of the trip. If you would prefer to share a room with someone you know, then please contact the Freshtracks office and we will make the relevant arrangements.
