Angus Maciver

I love skiing and love the mountains and outdoors generally. I am originally from Fort William in the Highlands which is probably where the passion developed. I now live in Windsor as well as during the winter spending a lot of time in the Alps - mainly in Villars-sur-Ollons as well as trips to other resorts. I've been a member of the Ski Club since the early noughties and helped out on Council in 2019 and as the interim General Manager in 2020. In 2018 I did the Leaders Course which was a great thing to do and I have enjoyed being a Rep since. I've found over the years that I enjoy helping others to make the most of their ski day, hope to meet you over a beer or on the slopes this season!

  • 84km of marked pistes and some great tree-lined skiing can be found in Villars, which is located on a sunny plateau just to the south of Lake Geneva.

Yes the slopes are low (topping out at only 2120m), but the location – the drive should take around an hour and a half from Geneva Airport – makes this a great weekend or last minute destination. It is no surprise that many Brits have second homes here as few places can rival Villars’ accessibility.
The mountain itself is mainly geared towards beginner and intermediate skiers and boarders – there are no black runs marked on the piste map. Off the slopes, winter walking, tobogganing and even snow mountain biking are popular pastimes.

With its charming alpine village atmosphere and diverse range of winter activities, Villars is the perfect spot for a short break in the mountains.

    Pros and cons

    • Incredibly quick and easy access from Geneva
    • Great terrain for beginner and intermediate skiers
    • Lots of chalet accommodation and activities off the slopes
    • Limited scope for more advanced skiers and riders
    • Low altitude and sunny location can cause serious snow issues
    • Weekends and peak holidays do get very busy

    Victoria Hotel & Residence

You will therefore be placed in a room on your own for the duration of the trip. It is a condition of booking that you have valid and adequate snowsports insurance. It is your responsibility to ensure your policy provides cover for all the activities that you participate in during your holiday.
We offer a Ski Club Insurance policy which provides the cover we require for all bookings. This policy can be found here: Ski Club Travel Insurance – Ski Club Of Great Britain

Due to the type of holidays that you will be booking with us, we also advise that your policy should include skiing off-piste without a guide. Please note, insurance premiums must be paid at the same time as booking in order for the package holiday or single service cancellation cover to be effective. It is also advised to keep your insurance details with you while you are on your holiday. If you choose to travel without adequate insurance cover, we will not be liable for any losses howsoever arising, in respect of which insurance cover would otherwise have been available.

    Rep Review – January 2024

    Angus Maciver, July 8, 2024

Villars is a great place to brush up on your technique – both on the slopes and in the restaurants! I’ve been going to Villars for nearly 20 years, it is a really pretty place to ski, great views, loads of lunch stops, good food in the evening and even the chance to do some wine tasting. The Villars weekend trip was new in 2024 and it was great fun to show 10 members round the resort in the company of two Snow-Pros Ski Instructors and my wife often makes a guest appearance too! Members found it an accessible ski area which was fun and beautiful with plenty of skiing for a long weekend – hope to see more of you this year!
