First Track
Carve on perfectly prepared ski runs, set the first tracks, and enjoy empty slopes. This is the dream of many skiers, and the Zermatt Bergbahnen are making dreams come true with this First Track offer. We will only say this much: the early bird catches the worm!
While other skiers are still asleep, you will be already in the cable car ready to ski – before the official opening time. Once you are at Trockener Steg, the waiting is over. The slope patrollers will welcome you and accompany you on this first descent. Now get your skis on, build up speed and the most beautiful feeling a skier can have comes quite naturally as you glide over the fresh tracks of the snow groomers, take swing turns in the crisp snow and make the most of the slopes, while the sun is rising.
When the dream descent is over, there is still plenty to look forward to: from 9.30 am to 11 am a lavish breakfast is served for you at the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise restaurant. Enjoy regional delicacies and the first rays of morning sun with an unobstructed view of the Matterhorn. If only every day’s skiing could begin like this …

The Matterhorn Testcenter is open from the end of October to the end of April. You just have to bring your own boots and poles. Did you like a particular model? It can be purchased directly from Bayard Sport, the official sales outlet in Zermatt, or any of the other Stöckli shops throughout Switzerland.
Moonlight Descent
You will experience some real moments of magic on the moonlight descent: on arrival at Rothorn, an aperitif awaits you as a refreshment to prepare you for a descent to remember. In the light of the full moon, you glide down the almost empty slopes. The surrounding peaks, enshrouded in mystery, glow in the moonlight. The winter forest to the side of the slope is enchanted. Down in the valley you can see the lights of the village of Zermatt twinkling romantically.
At the end of the slope, at the CERVO Mountain Resort, warm up with a mulled wine on the terrace before enjoying a traditional Swiss cheese fondue at the restaurant Ferdinand by CERVO. During dinner, there will be typical Swiss musical entertainment as well. What are you waiting for?
Slope Preparation
Why are the groomers in the Matterhorn Ski Paradise nicknamed “heroes of the night”? Find out now. Watch one of the 23 heroes closely on an exclusive ride in a slope groomer. The mission of the team is to prepare a total of 200 kilometres of slopes in Zermatt to ensure that guests can have an unforgettable skiing experience every day.
What seems like an exclusive winter adventure to you is hard and precise work for the drivers of the snow groomers. Their working day begins when all the skiers and snowboarders have left the slopes in the evening. And you can join them live.
From the co-driver’s seat you will learn about this workplace: the groomer – with up to 490 horsepower and weigh 11 tonnes. How are the snow blower and plough controlled? What do the symbols on the display stand for? What do colleagues report on the radio? Good thing that your driver has everything under control.
To be a true hero of the night you must know every curve, dip, and obstacle like the back of your hand. Tasks you have to master are smoothing the slopes, filling hollows, creating snow deposits and finally drawing the characteristic groove pattern on the surface. And with that, the heroic deed is done.
