On the Slopes
Arabba is not a great choice for beginners, the only nursery zone is near the bottom of the Burz chair and is unfortunately a bit steep. For intermediates however this is the ideal resort and the Sella Ronda circuit is within reach of confident intermediates. The pistes are usually very well groomed and thanks to near complete snowmaking coverage, good conditions can be guaranteed throughout the winter.
Some of the offshoots from the main circuit are also well worth exploring, especially the Marmolada Glacier and the gentle blues of Pralongia above Alta Badia. More advanced skiers will enjoy the long blacks from the top of Porto Vescovo just outside of the resort and on powder days there is some good terrain if you know where to look.
In the Resort
The village is small and traditional in style, but not notably picturesque despite the spectacular scenery. It is a true skiers resort, with low key nightlife, though there is great cuisine both in town and on the mountain – most of which is very good value. There is also a small range of shops and bars, all perfect for some relaxed downtime after a long day on the mountain.

Hello, and welcome to the first of the Ski Club’s Snow Overviews for the 2024/25 winter season. With our first holidays jetting out this weekend, Reps eagerly packing their bags before heading out, and ski resorts opening across Europe, now is the perfect time to start thinking about snow!
Italy has seen more of a mixed back conditions-wise over the past week or two, pummelled by snow in September but most of this having left us in the intervening weeks. Nevertheless, a few good snowfalls over the past week or so has seen a strong base in play that the Azzurri will look to build on as the season begins to move through the gears. Temperatures across the region have been mild, with the freezing line touching 2,000m in many places, but this will begin to fall as the week continues hitting 500m by Sunday. If you are able to get out on snow this week over the weekend, some perfect, cold, bluebird conditions should dominate.
Things will remain fine and dry for most areas, some higher peaks around the Aosta Valley seeing a flurry of a few centimetres on Thursday. The disruptive weather that is bringing more meaningful snowfall for many areas of Europe will, unfortunately, not push away the high pressure system over Italy so the trade off for beautiful conditions is a lack of further snow!
At least for the time being – things are expected to change next week, with more unsettled conditions moving in from a few angles to bring snow to many areas. It remains a little too far out to see where this snow will fall, but stay tuned for more.
