Despite it's small size compared to Sunshine Village and Lake Louise it still manages to offer varied terrain.
Featuring great runs for beginners and families the resort remains a historic destination for alpine ski racing. The slopes overlook the town of Banff and can be the place to go on a powder day when others flock to the bigger ski areas instead. Famously big bumps can be found off the North American chair and this is also a good place for early season skiing – with 85% snowmaking coverage across the area’s 60 marked trails.
The resort is only a few minutes drive from Banff itself, one of the liveliest and best ski towns in North America. There’s a big seasonnaire crowd and numerous bars and restaurants (be sure to check out the various Happy Hour offers), making this a seriously fun resort after dark. Add to this the easy access to the other two ski areas outside of Banff, the spectacular scenery and the easy access from Calgary (the transfer takes around 2 hours), and it is clear why Banff is such a popular destination.

Cold and snow conditions will move across the Coastal ranges for much of this weekend and into the week. Almost continuous snowfall throughout this period will bring three feet of snow – with two feet falling on Saturday alone. Temperatures remain cool-to-cold with -4°C expected as daytime highs at 1,500m. Whilst Avalanche Canada have repealed their nationwide special warning notice, this new snow will still fall on a persistent weak layer that has been causing issues all season; the avalanche forecast is already ticking up to 4 (High) for this weekend, meaning great care should be taken when planning or travelling in backcountry areas – consider carefully the necessity of backcountry travel at all.
Further inland, this snowfall reaches the BC Interior and Rockies on Sunday evening, with around 10-20cm down in parts. Again, the avalanche forecast will tick up, with Level 4 (High) being forecast for this weekend and onwards. Consider carefully the necessity of backcountry travel.
Bitterly cold conditions and flurries of snowfall continue over this weekend in the St Lawrence, although both these factors eventually clear up for milder conditions. Things turn cold again through the middle of next week.
