We’d recommended Baqueira as it is the largest, has the best choice of bars and restaurants and is located right in the heart of the ski area.
The slopes mostly suit intermediates, but there are some good beginner zones, most notably on the Bosque plateau above Baqueira and on the edge of Beret. More advanced skiers and boarders should not turn away however, as on a powder day the upper bowls of the resort offer terrain to rival the big hitters in the Alps.
The excellent main beginner area lies at the top of the main Baqueira gondola, where the gentle slopes are a great place to learn. Progression is then easy to the longer green “Era Coma”. Intermediates will love the extensive, open cruising above the treeline and confident skiers and boarders should be able to make it from Tuc de Costarjàs at one end to the Cap de la Peülla at the other.
The construction of the Baciver drag lift in 2018 created a new playground for advanced and expert skiers and boarders, which opens up a big off piste amphitheatre above the Lacs de Baciver. The bowl above Argulls is another great place to head on a powder day, or if the Muguet and Manuad blacks are freshly groomed. Skiers and boarders will enjoy more kilometres this winter thanks to a new red slope at Baqueira Beret: Eth Coret. It starts at the bottom of the Baciver ski lift and goes all the way to Orri
Baqueira is a mainly modern development with its fair share of slightly uninspiring blocks in the central area, clustered below the road that runs through to the high pass of Port de la Bonaigua, with the main lift base just above it. However, there is a good deal of accommodation to choose from, much of which is good value – and a lot of the hotels have great facilities for kids.
Tapas restaurants are littered throughout the village, but more choice and some seriously good food can be found down the valley in the old town of Vielha.
Away from the slopes there is not a great deal to do but there is a good cross country loop by Beret and many hotels have pools.
Toulouse airport is a two hour transfer whilst the drive from Barcelona takes around four hours.

Fine, dry and bright conditions dominate for the Pyrenees as high pressure remains camped out over most of Europe. Temperatures will remain mild-to-cool, with positive freezing temperatures dropping away overnight at mid-mountain level.
A pocket of unsettled conditions caused by some low pressure over the Mediterranean, bringing a flurry of snow to the region on Wednesday, but this will remain limited at best.

I first discovered skiing when I was 11 and went on my first ski holiday with my school to Austria - I can't remember where, it was a very long time ago! Never mind, the place didn't leave much of an impression but the sport certainly did. I continued to ski until my 20's when it became a religion and I then qualified as an instructor. That still wasn't good enough, the passion grew and grew until now in my 30's, the time came for a career break: I left the world of design and set up a small independent ski company based in the Chamonix valley. Which I ran successfully for 5 years, until the real world caught up with me again.
I saw the club Rep position, not merely as a means to ski more, but give back some of my passion for the sport by helping other skiers enjoy there holiday to the max., through what I see as an invaluable club service. So what happens when the snow melts? You'll often find me on the Dorset coast windsurfing, running, cycling...See you on the slopes!
Married with two grown up daughters. I have been skiing for over 30 years and love to travel miles on skis preferably to a great lunch venue. I will tackle any piste and reasonable off piste always taking into consideration those I am skiing with and everyone's safety. I particularly like skiing in the soft snow just off the piste where conditions are often best. I successfully completed the Ski Leader Programme in December 2016.
I started skiing when I was 7 years old - my parents put me on a bus and sent me off to ski school, and I’ve skied every year since. Growing up in Canada meant skiing every weekend throughout the winter, and even weekday evenings with the school ski club. Since moving to the UK 30 years ago, it’s been more about week-long ski trips with friends and family at various resorts around Europe, and of course an annual trip to ski with old friends in Canada. There’s nothing like the feeling of being in the fresh air on snow!
