Forecast today: Clear skies
While there are some beginner slopes, the pistes are best suited for intermediate skiers, and most visitors come here for the off piste terrain. Long descents run from the summit of the tiny Arp cable car, but the jewels in the crown are the huge descents off Punta Helbronner, served by the Monte Bianco Skyway Cable Car. Hire a guide and ensuring you have the correct equipment is the best way to enjoy these routes. Plan Checouit will remain open after dark, allowing skiers and snowboarders the chance to take dinner or an aperitif on the mountain before returning to down on the gondola – now open until midnight every evening.
Its inclusion in the Mont Blanc Unlimited ski pass and its unique location that means that it often has snow when the northern Alps doesn’t, makes this a popular destination for skiers from Chamonix when conditions aren’t ideal on the other side of Mont Blanc. But this works both ways, so if the snow isn’t great in Italy, a quick hop through the Mont Blanc Tunnel will have you in France and shredding the powder of Chamonix’s slopes.
Although there are some gentle slopes above Plan Checrouit, there is little here for beginners. Most of the 43km of slopes suit intermediates best and there is some great cruising on offer, both in the trees down to Zerotta and above them towards Youla. The main attraction however is the off piste. There is some excellent tree skiing and some seriously long descents from Arp down either side of the ski area – get a guide to explore these routes best.
Expert off piste skiers and snowboarders should hire a guide and head up to Punta Helbronnner. The views are spectacular from the recently rebuilt rotating cable car, but the ski descents are equally epic. You can either lap the lift via south facing, rocky slopes or head north towards Chamonix and the world- famous Vallée Blanche – ski down and come back via the Mont Blanc Tunnel.
The pretty resort sits in a deep valley so can struggle for sunshine in the depths of winter, but the cobbled streets and traditional main street make up for this. There is a good range of shops – including some excellent shops selling ski touring gear – as well as some cosy bars and restaurants that play host to a lively, but relaxed evening atmosphere in town.
For maximum convenience try and base yourself next to either of the access gondolas in Courmayeur, of which the Dolonne is slightly further out of town – but here you do get the bonus of being able to ski down at the end of the day.
Entrèves is an alternative a little further up the valley, stay here if you are looking to ski tour from the top of Helbronner each day, or if you’d rather escape to a very quiet, small village.
You have two options here – either fly to Geneva and drive through the Mont Blanc tunnel or head up the Aosta Valley from Turin. Both journeys take around an hour and a half to two hours.

Our Snow Overviews are updated bi-weekly between the start of December and early May every season, providing summaries of snowfall, weather, avalanche risk and other noteworthy meteorological events to help you prepare for your skiing holiday. Check back next winter to stay up-to-date on the latest weather happenings in resort.
Your Ski Club Reps are in resort for one reason only; to help you discover better skiing. They are your personal resort gurus, with years of experience skiing here and around the world, who will bring you and your fellow Members together to conquer the mountain! Stay up to date with everything in resort, find the best spots for an après beer, and ski to your heart’s content.
Our Reps will be in resort between 5 January and 29 March 2025, skiing six days a week – Reps’ day off/changeover day is Sunday in this resort. We are making changes to how registration to ski with the Club in resort works. Thank you for your patience whilst we undertake these updates to the registration process.
I love to ski so that's good then. Looking forward to getting back on the snow and feeling European again!! Being a Rep to me means visiting great resorts, getting to know ski mad members and showing them a good time on the slopes. I like bumps, I like steeps and I love powder. Whether cruising blues or descending reds, there is nothing I like more than the happy look on members faces after a good day on the snow. Seems I have only managed 4 stars which is not bad but want to go for the 5 star approval this year ;-)! Always good to have a goal. I am looking forward to meeting ski friends old and new!
I am a keen skier and passed my Leaders (now Reps) course in 2018 and I have mainly skied in the European Alps although have ventured as far as Whistler and Colorado! I ski when ever I can and am happy at any level, beginner to advanced, on piste, off piste. I have also done some ski touring and am keen to develop this further. I also like the mountains in the summer and have summitted several 4000m+ peaks including Mont Blanc and Grand Paradiso. I am looking forward to this season and what it may bring!
I started skiing at the age of 10 and have been a ski club "rep" since I was 22 and over the years, I have led a considerable number of Freshtracks holidays and repped in Austria, Switzerland and Italy. In my professional life I have developed and opened 3 indoor ski slopes and advise on the operation of indoor snow centres.
My first skiing trip was to St Anton at tender age of 22, which was a long time ago now. I caught the bug from the very beginning and I've not missed a season ever since. I just LOVE the mountains and have never had a bad day; just some better than others. This is my tenth season leading/repping for the club, which has enabled to ski some great resorts where I’ve had some truly memorable moments and met some fantastic people along the journey. My favourite resort is Revelstoke in British Columbia with its legendary powder, small town vibe and it’s where my youngest daughter lived for six years!
I love all aspects of being in the mountains and in all seasons, although winter is my favourite time. I am a relative latecomer to skiing having pulled on my first pair of rear entry boots (found and donated from a mate's loft) in my thirties. Since then its been a case of upgrading my kit and skills and making up for lost time! I enjoy sharing mountain days with like - minded people, admiring the views and being in the moment. I have spent recent winters in beautiful British Columbia, Austria and Italy.
I discovered skiing as a teenager, going with the school and a group of friends and really enjoyed it. I find skiing a combination of exhilarating, sometimes challenging, a bit technical as you try to improve and out of this world when there is good snow and sunshine.
Once I started work in finance I took a long break from skiing starting again in earnest in 2016 taking the family (to the 3 Vallees) and then I discovered the Ski Club. I have met some wonderful members, Reps and instructors on various Freshtrack holidays and I think the Ski Club is a fantastic way to meet and ski with like minded people.
In 2024 now retired I am fairly active and I wondered how I could get more involved with the Ski Club and decided I would become a Ski Club Rep. So here I am hopefully I can serve up some Rep goodness from the other side of the fence!
