Deer Valley still limits its ticket sales every day, meaning you'll rarely be in a lift queue.
You are likely – even on the busiest weekends – to ski deserted slopes as a result, too. The plentiful Utah powder stays untracked here for longer and the resort is famed for the quality of its grooming. There’s everything from gentle greens to genuine double diamond blacks here, plus with many of the guests sticking firmly to the pistes, the off piste opportunities here are very good.
Note that Deer Valley is one of the last resorts that is still ski only; snowboarding is not permitted. Mono skiing and telemark equipment is permitted on the hill, as is adaptive snowsports equipment although this must be done in accordance with the resort’s “ski only” policy. There are several bases to choose from, all of which offer high-end accommodation, plus there’s the option to stay in Park City. It is just down the road and is much livelier, with a good choice of bars and restaurants. Deer Valley’s location lends itself perfectly to tying a stay in with a multi-resort trip – visit other resorts such as Park City, Alta and Snowbird – plus access from Salt Lake City airport is incredibly easy.

High pressure remains in play over the Left Coast, with pockets of sun and bitterly cold temperatures the theme across the region. This does begin to change as the week concludes and the new week begins. The first proper low pressure system of the season will begin to make its way in off the Pacific, hitting the PNW and Sierras by the end of the week, bringing with it a steady foot of snow over this period at Mt Bachelor. This system will make its way inland, but will impact other regions outside this forecast period.
On the Ice Coast, a mild start suddenly becomes cold, with above-freezing temperatures plummeting to -25°C (-13°F) overnight. Rain falling over this period will turn to snow, albeit sitting on a frozen layer in the snow pack. Things to turn milder as the weekend concludes and the new week begins.
