The main slopes are shared with the neighbouring resort of Wengen, and there is conveniently a separate area of sunny pistes on First. The resort also provides some of the best off-snow diversions of any in the Alps. A trip up to Jungfraujoch is a must, and, in addition, the resort boasts Europe’s longest sledging run and an extensive network of mountain walking trails.
The major area of slopes is shared with Wengen and offers a mix of a few wooded runs and much more extensive open slopes – all served by fast lifts. The smaller First area is mainly above the treeline but offers sunny runs, great views and is also home to a top-class terrain park and ski cross course. Note that several areas are designated as skier-free wildlife reserves, where you may well spot chamois.
The central buildings are mainly in traditional chalet style, in keeping with the resort’s long mountaineering history. The village can feel very jolly at times, especially when events are going on in town or up on the slopes. Although the road through goes nowhere, traffic can sometimes be intrusive.
It’s not the most convenient place for families because of its spread-out nature. However, the sheer variety of off-slope activities make this a good bet for families not looking to spend their whole holidays on skis or on a snowboard. For the younger ones, Snowli Kids Clubs are based at both Bodmi (First) and at the top of Männlichen.
Tipirama – a wigwam at Kleine Scheidegg, sometimes with DJs and live bands – is a fun place immediately after skiing. There are various (mainly open air) bars to stop in on the way down to Grund. The liveliest are the Rancher on run 22, which attracts a young crowd, the Holzerbar on run 21 and the Aspen Hotel a little further down the hill.
In town, the terrace of the C&M Café und Mehr is good for coffee and cake. Later on, there’s live music in several bars and hotels, such as the Challibar in the Hotel Kreuz & Post, but it isn’t a place for bopping until dawn. The Espresso bar in the Spinne Hotel is lively and the Gepsi Bar in the Eiger is a favourite. Both the Mescalero in the Spinne and Plaza in the Sunstar are popular clubs.
Each area in the Jungfrau region, including the separate Grindelwald areas, employ separate opening and closing dates:
Individual area tickets are no longer available – instead, one lift pass now covers all Jungfrau resorts of Grindelwald, Wengen and Mürren

High pressure over Eastern and Central Europe creates a strong barrier that is preventing low pressure and unsettled weather making its way in off the Atlantic. The result will be a cool but otherwise really stable week and weekend ahead for the Swiss Alps.
Sun will be the order of the day for most of this week, with a few flutters of cloud cover moving in through the middle of the week. The freezing line will drop overnight, with lows of -9°C possible at 2,000m. From its nadir at 1,000m, the line will climb in the midday sun, reaching 2,000m every day, bringing spring-like conditions to make areas. Through the middle of the week, the overnight line will rise to 1,500m, limiting the ability of snow on lower slopes to freeze overnight.
Early indicators are for some more snowfall to begin the new week, but it remains too early to tell whether this will bring meaningful snow to the region.

I love the outdoors, and the combination of snow and mountains creates a special attraction. For many years I have introduced friends and family to skiing, helping them to develop and share in a great sport and environment. I saw being a Rep as a chance to meet new people, make friends, and share this passion. My other passion is rugby, which I played for over 30 years, and have also coached and refereed. I also enjoy scuba diving, which I have pursued in many countries, and one of the most interesting was an ice-dive at Tignes-le-lac.
I started skiing in my early 20's and have managed to ski most years since then, mainly in Europe but occasionally in America or Canada. I enjoy skiing both on and off piste. I joined the Ski Club to take advantage of Freshtracks holidays and to utilise the Resort Repping services. I feel I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to become a Ski Club rep to give something back to the club and take the opportunity to ski, and share the odd drink, with like minded people in resort. Outside skiing I enjoy hill walking and mountain biking.
