There are 70km of slopes in the Katschberg ski area,
located on the Aineck and Tschaneck Mountains, either side of the Katschberg Pass. Most of the slopes are tree-lined, making this a great resort for bad weather and with 100% snowmaking coverage, the resort guarantees good snow cover throughout the season. With most of them rated red and black, this isn’t a resort for beginners, but confident intermediates upwards will love the terrain, especially after fresh snow. Access is quick thanks to a good, modern lift system.
The village itself is relatively small and its location at 1641m means you’re at a snowsure altitude. There’s also the option of staying at the other end of the ski area at St Margarethen im Lungnau, a pretty valley town with access via gondola to the main slopes. Off the slopes there’s some good winter walking routes and a toboggan trail. Getting here is quick and easy, with the route from Salzburg taking less than an hour and a half.

Snow Overview

High pressure over Eastern and Central Europe creates a strong barrier that is preventing low pressure and unsettled weather making its way in off the Atlantic. The result will be a cool but otherwise really stable week and weekend ahead for the Austrian Alps.
Sun will be the order of the day for most of this week, with a few flutters of cloud cover moving in through the middle of this week. The freezing line will drop overnight, with lows of -9°C possible at 2,000m. From its nadir at 1,000m, the line will climb in the midday sun, reaching 2,000m every day, bringing spring-like conditions to make areas. Over the course of the week, both overnight and midday lines will rise by c.500m, meaning proper spring-like conditions will dominate with fewer opportunities for snow to freeze overnight.
Early indicators are for some more snowfall to begin the new week, but it remains too early to tell whether this will bring meaningful snow to the region.
