Forecast today: Light snow
There’s no better way to explore Klosters than with Ski Club Freshtracks this season. We have at least eight departures heading to Klosters and sister resort Davos this season, with something for everything!
Despite the village’s relatively low altitude, more than 80% of the runs are above the snowsure altitude 2000m. Beginners have quick access to sunny nursery slopes up at Madrisa and some gentle blues at the top of the Gotschnagrat cable car, intermediates can explore five mountains in the valley and in Pischa there is an entire mountain dedicated to freeriding. The only real issue is the resort runs and beginners and early intermediates should definitely download – there is no blue route down.
The Klosters Platz railway station at the heart of town forms the hub of the village, from which a collection of upmarket chalet-style hotels dominate the resort centre. It is much smaller than Davos further up the valley and is split by the Landquart River, making for a more picturesque setting. The smaller Klosters Dorf lies at the base of Madrisa gondola, about a mile to the north.
Klosters makes for a quieter base in the valley than Davos. The smaller hotels and chalets are better suited to families and the lower levels of traffic make it all a bit safer. Staying at Klosters Dorf is recommended to be nearer the beginner ski areas.
For Ski Club Members, the hub is the Silvretta Park Hotel, located just over the river from the station and where the Ski_Club’s_social_hour is hosted each evening. Away from this, après is generally low key – sipping a glühwein in a cosy bar or grabbing a cold beer at Gaudy’s umbrella bar is very much the Klosters way.
Getting to Klosters is easiest on the train. From Zürich you need to change twice but it takes just over two hours – one of the quickest transfers in Switzerland – and this is by far the best airport to fly to. Basel is an hour further away. Driving is an option if your hotel has parking – Zürich is around two hours away, as are the small German airports of Friedrichshafen and Memmingen.
Each of the six mountains that make up the Davos-Klosters ski area have their own season dates:

The last of the excellent snowfall tails off on Christmas eve, before things settle down across the region for the remainder of this week. High pressure dominates throughout, meaning fine, dry and bright conditions are in store for Christmas Day and right the way through to the end of the weekend.
Temperatures will be cool, with a freezing line hovering around 1,000m overnight and spiking up to 2,000m during the midday sun – that means highs of 1-3°C can be expected at 1,500m.
Otherwise, things are holding steady with some excellent skiing conditions coming up.
The Ski Club office is closed on Friday 28 December – there will be no overviews published on this date, returning Tuesday 31 December. The Ski Club wishes you a Merry Christmas!

Stay up to date with everything in resort, find the best spots for an après beer, and ski to your heart’s content.
Our Reps will be in resort between 4 January and 14 March 2025, skiing six days a week – Reps’ day off/changeover day is Saturday in this resort. Hi, I have been a rep for over 22 years and have skied/snowboarded in numerous resorts all over the alps. I have lived and worked in Switzerland at times and so lucky to visit many lesser known ski resorts both in winter and summer. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience with you and maybe an adventure or two!
There is no Rep scheduled to be in resort over the designated period.
Skiing has become one of my favourite activities. From exploring the pistes with friends to skinning up mountains in a blizzard with the family (and hopefully find some powder rather than breakable crust on the way down) or skiing with SCGB members for the day, skiing is always fun and full of adventure. I am probably known for always only eating an apple strudel or fruit tart on the mountain! In Lech, where I skied for over 15 years, the mountain guides knew to finish by the best spot. Whilst leading in Saas Fee I combined the awesome views with the food for my ratings. I now enjoy repping for the club in Klosters, a resort with a good variety of skiing and restaurants! Otherwise I ski mostly in the Valais, based in the Four Valleys/Verbier.
Although I started skiing in my twenties, I was already an avid watcher of Ski Sunday and knew the tune off-by-heart whilst still in nappies. Taking the career opportunity to live and work in Switzerland for 8 years further nailed my obsession and having skiied every weekend since arriving, during the season, I soon got to grips with my edges. I gave myself the challenge (and a birthday treat?!) to learn to snowboard in 2005 and have subsequently done my exams on the board. I love the freedom and fluidity on the board and really enjoy leading skiers and encouraging us all to share the piste together and have fun. A few of my favourite resorts I have snowboarded in include: Aspen, Breckenridge, Vail, Whistler, Villars,FilmsLaax, Chamonix, Megeve, Courmayeur, and Banff including Lake Louise. I've Heli-skied (on the board) off Panorama with RK Helsinki and I've repped in Klosters, Davos, Saas Fee and Verbier. I very much look forward to seeing you there for some magic on the snow very soon.
Skiing is so addictive, isn’t it?
The thrill of the descent, the stunning mountain views, the cold fresh air, the crunch of snow underfoot and the vibrant Apres ski. Oh, and memories which last a lifetime! Despite skiing for over 30 yrs in resorts all over the world, and a career in ski media nearly all my working life, my passion for the sport remains unabated.
On planning retirement, the key question was how am I going to continue to feed this love of the mountains and give something back to the sport? Having worked for the Ski Club for many years and skied with its Reps on several occasions, I understood the value of the product and admired it greatly. So there was the solution: join the fold, which I did in 2018! I look forward to meeting you soon and sharing our passion.
