Despite the relatively low altitude, a vast snowmaking system ensures reliable conditions throughout the winter, just keep an eye out for slushier patches come spring. The resort itself is bustling, with lots of good shops, lively bars and excellent restaurants, all set in a pretty wooded valley and surrounded by breathtaking Dolomite scenery.
The 150km of slopes suit beginners and intermediates best. For absolute beginners there is a good area on the edge of the village, from which point progression on to longer blues is excellent – in fact there are few resorts with such a good selection of long blue runs. Intermediates then have the pick of the slopes, stretching all the way to Folgarida to the north and Pinzolo to the south. A further great addition for 2019/20 for intermediates is that the Nube d’Oro 2-seat fixed grip chairlift has been replaced by a new 6 seater with a significantly increased hourly capacity of 2800 people – this will take skiers from the top of the blue Nube d’Argento-Genderme run and has enabled the creation of a new ski run behind Malga Montagnoli.
For a Dolomite resort, the Madonna ski area has more tough terrain than average – 22% of the pistes are rated black. The best are on Monte Spinale, but there are also good challenges towards Marilleva. Off piste is generally limited, both by local rules and relatively sparse natural snowfall.
Madonna di Campiglio is mainly built in a traditional Alpine style and has a nice, car-free centre as the village is bypassed by through-traffic. Near the centre is a small park and a lake which is used for skating and there are some good cross country trails in the valley. The town does spread out quite a bit however, so some accommodation is a decent walk from the lifts.
There are some lively spots for après, especially at the foot of Monte Spinale and at Grostè. Food throughout the resort is also usually a highlight, both on the slopes and back in town.
Verona is the nearest airport, with the transfer taking around two hours. Venice and Bergamo are other options – the transfer from both takes around three hours.
The resort have not yet (September 26) published season dates for the 2024/25 winter season.

A really, really mixed bag is in store this weekend for Italian resorts, with some areas benefiting from a ramp up of winter conditions right before winter, others not enjoying quite the same fate by dint of geography.
The southwest will see a fairly standard pattern, temperatures falling as the weekend progresses and getting some good snowfall making it over the Main Alpine Ridge from France. Sauze d’Oulx will see around 15cm of snow on Sunday, enough to give it a really good boost just before the start of the Christmas week. Cloud and cold conditions will continue, with the occasional flurry of snowfall to freshen things up over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day itself.
Cervinia and the high ground of the Aosta Valley will be best placed to capture this upcoming snowfall, with a foot expected down on Sunday and then again across Monday and Tuesday combined. This will fall across all elevations as the freezing line remains firmly rooted to around 500m elevation. Christmas Day itself is expected to be fine, dry and bright, with cold temperatures and plenty of sun, making for near-perfect riding conditions after the previous snowfall!
Finally, in the Dolomites, a much calmer, brighter weekend and Christmas week is in store – but this does come at the cost of missing out on snowfall. High pressure will remain dominant, meaning sun will be present on Saturday and again in the new week, interspersed with cloud cover and flurries of snow. This won’t really be much to register on a snowstick at all, most of the snow here getting stuck on the Austria side of the Main Alpine Ridge.

I have been skiing since the age of 18 and have enjoyed many seasons in the Alps instructing and leading ski trips. Having taken a break from this to concentrate on my career and my daughter's skiing I was taken by a friend on a ski club Fresh Tracks trip to Chamonix. I enjoyed it so much I joined as a leader and haven't looked back since! I have skied extensively over the last 35 years in Europe, North America and Japan. As well as my passion for skiing I love Cricket, Squash and Sailing and am trying to love Golf!
I enjoy every aspect and style of downhill skiing - from cruisey blues through thigh-burning reds and jaw-dropping blacks to heart-pumping moguls and waist-burying powder (when available). But, more than anything else, skiing is for me a social sport so there is nothing I like more than making new friends and enjoying convivial company while finding new places to ski and new routes to travel between picturesque chocolate stops and wonderful mountain restaurants. This year I am looking forward to skiing some new resorts, meeting more friends and helping Ski Club members experience my favourite activities. When I am not dreaming about, or planning, my next ski trip I live in the quiet Hampshire downlands, keeping fit for next season swimming, cycling, walking and playing the occasional game of tennis.
I've been repping since 1991 and have ripped in most resorts. I spend most of my season in Val d'Isere which has great range of on and off piste terrain.
I am fortunate to have learnt to ski at school in the 1970's, and have continued to do so ever since including resorts in Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, North America and Canada. My passion is skiing, but I am also able to snowboard and therefore understand some of the terrain to be best avoided on a snowboard. My home is in North Yorkshire and my other interests include keeping fit, mountain biking, golf and off-shore sailing. I look forward to meeting you and sharing some laughs! P.S. I enjoy the Apres Ski.............
We are still early in the process of assigning Reps for the 2024/25 winter season. Thank you for your patience whilst we make these arrangements.
