Although it is small, the Mölltal Glacier offers up some of Austria's best glacier skiing,
with reliable snow conditions thanks to exceptional altitude and an arsenal of snow machines located on the glacier itself – it’s no wonder therefore that the Austrian National Team use Mölltal for their summer and autumn training.
There is 18km of slopes, not all of which open in the summer, with a decent amount of variety, plus there’s also some decent off piste when conditions allow.
There is no accommodation at the foot of the long funicular that accesses the ski area, so you’ll need to stay down in the valley in the village of Flattach.
Nearby, there’s also skiing at Ankogel and Heiligenblut isn’t far away either.
Klagenfurt is the closest airport (1.5 hours drive) with Salzburg (2 hours drive) is another option.

Snow Overview

High pressure dominates over most of Europe this week, thanks to the Jetstream forming a strong barrier along the west cost of Ireland, the UK and Norway. As a result, plenty of sun and fine, dry and bright conditions will be story of the week from now until the end of the weekend.
Things will remain cold, however, with a freezing line camping out at around 1,000m, occasionally peaking to 2,000m in the midday sun. Daytime highs of -5°C can be expected at 2,000m, occasionally slipping into positive temperatures throughout the week.
A few flurries of snow will move in to some areas on Wednesday as a pocket of low pressure moves into Eastern Europe, but this will barely measure on the snowstick.
This barrier is broken as the weekend comes to a conclusion, with more unsettled weather moving in over the course of the new week – it is still to far out to see what affect this may have.
