A gondola and a chairlift rise up from the valley at 700m to the Chalet d'Claire, which opens up the entire Grand Massif network of slopes.
That being said, beginners in particular may not even leave the local ski area, which is home to a good selection of greens and blues, offering very nice terrain for progression. More adventurous skiers should head across to the wide open Flaine bowl to perfect their off piste skills or to the the long Coulouvrier chairlift (installed in 2018/19) which opened up almost 1000m of tree-lined terrain above the village of Morillon itself.
Staying down in the valley means you might not be able to ski down at the end of the day, but you get a traditional village with good facilities and quick access to the slopes. The closer to the gondola you stay the better, or if you’re looking for maximum convenience, the small satellite village of Morillon 1100 has easier access to the slopes and some family-friendly, slopeside accommodation. The quick access from Geneva (transfers typically take an hour) makes Morillon a great option for a weekend trip.

The Jetstream is perfectly position for superb conditions to sweep France through the middle of this week, allow low pressure flowing across Europe and cold air from the north to bring one thing – snow.
Conditions are currently very good across most of the French Alps, with consistent snowfall across Monday night and Tuesday bringing at least 45cm to many areas. Snowfall will continue across Tuesday night and Wednesday and, with the freezing line hovering just above 1,000m, this will ensure most elevations get some of the good stuff. At least 75cm can be expected across higher ground.
Conditions will ease towards the end of this week and into the weekend, with floccons continuing amidst plenty of cloud cover; this will ease into Sunday as High Pressure moves across the region, but temperatures will fall as the freezing line plummets.
The avalanche forecast is already high at Level 4 – High. This is expected to come down, but this new snow is sitting on a layer of rain crust at lower elevations – 1,800m and below – and a persistent weak layer. Check your local avalanche forecast and plan any off piste and backcountry travel carefully.
