Most pistes are suited to intermediate skiers, who have an almost limitless choice of terrain across the ski area – which includes Sestriere, Sansicario, Claviere, Cesana_Torinese and Montgenèvre. This is also a great resort for bad weather as a large proportion of the slopes are within the trees but crucially in this relatively dry corner of the Alps, most of these are now equipped with snowmaking.
The resort is centred on a cobbled, car-free zone in keeping with the traditional buildings of the region. From this, larger hotels and chalets spread out across the hillside so check where you want to be based if walking in ski boots to the lifts in the morning isn’t your thing. At night the centre is lively, with bars filling up quickly and staying full into the small hours.
As mentioned, the beginner slopes are far from ideal but there is a small area in the resort itself. Off the slopes there is not a great deal to do for families and the busy town centre may prove to be a bit noisy if you have children – try and stay a little bit further out if this is the case.
Sauze offers some of the best après in Italy but it doesn’t quite rival the party towns in France or Austria. That being said happy hours are very popular and several places will also serve up free antipasti with your drinks. Some recommendations include Grotta, Scacco Matto and Max’s Café – home to a four hour happy hour. Later on, the late night bars get going and don’t be surprised if you end up heading to the nightclub underneath Mira’s.
Sauze d’Oulx is well connected to nearby Turin, with a brand new motorway installed along the length of the Val de Susa in time for the Turin 2006 Winter Olympics, which saw some events staged in Via Lattea. As a result, transfer times can be as little as 40 minutes from Turin Airport. Regular train services run from Turin along the valley, stopping at Oulx – from here, regular buses and, from March 2024, the dedicated Via Lattea Link service, will transport you from the valley floor to the resort. Oulx is also served by regular Frecchiarossa (Red Arrow), Italy’s brilliant high-speed rail service, from Paris (although this is currently curtailed at Grenoble due to a landslide at Modane, just across the border in France). As an added incentive, if you arrive in the Via Lattea by TrenItalia train, you can get up to 25% off your lift pass for up to six days – an incredible saving and not to be missed! Note this only applies to services booked through and operated by TrenItalia, so avoid booking through SNCF or the Trainline Europe, and if coming from Paris ensure that you are on the Frecchiarossa service to Oulx and not the TGV service to Bardonecchia.
Dates for the 2023/24 season are still to be confirmed; the season at Sauze d’Oulx typically runs from early December to Mid-April.

Our day today consisted of a visit to Montgenevre. On arrival it was cold and the visibility was almost nil. We did however make a move up the mountain and were rewarded by changing and improving light during the morning. We particularly enjoyed the Grondans area where we all did the bordercross course and skied some lovely snow in improving light. Following a coffee stop at Grondans, we made a way to the Rocher de l’Aigle area where we skied that beautiful red run twice. On our 3rd ascent we took piste 100 leading us back into Italy and the Claviere area where after a run down piste 93 we stopped for lunch at la Coch. The afternoon saw us skiing in the Brousset area of Montgenevre where the skiing was excellent
Very cloudy with occasional sun-breakthroughs.

Our Snow Overviews are updated bi-weekly between the start of December and early May every season, providing summaries of snowfall, weather, avalanche risk and other noteworthy meteorological events to help you prepare for your skiing holiday. Check back next winter to stay up-to-date on the latest weather happenings in resort.
Your Ski Club Reps are in resort for one reason only; to help you discover better skiing. They are your personal resort gurus, with years of experience skiing here and around the world, who will bring you and your fellow Members together to conquer the mountain! Stay up to date with everything in resort, find the best spots for an après beer, and ski to your heart’s content.
Our Reps will be in resort between 5 January and 29 March 2025, skiing six days a week – Reps’ day off/changeover day is Sunday in this resort. We are making changes to how registration to ski with the Club in resort works. Thank you for your patience whilst we undertake these updates to the registration process.
I am a very enthusiastic skier. I love to share the joy of skiing with like minded people. Over the years I have been lucky enough to have represented the club on many holidays and made many enduring friendships. Of all the resorts I have visited on behalf of the club Sauze d'Oulx is my favourite , it has a wide variety of terrain, wide open slopes, tree line pistes, secrete trails, terrific tree skiing and easily accessible of piste, as well as connections to the whole of the Milky way. Sauze has some fantastic mountain hostelries really friendly resort bars and restaurants. I look making lots of new friends and renewing old acquaintances during my repping slot in January.
We are still early in the process of assigning Reps for the 2024/25 winter season. Thank you for your patience whilst we make these arrangements.

I came to skiing late and got the bug! So now while lots of people around me hate the oncoming cold of the winter for me it just means skiing! Bring it on! But it's not just the fun of skiing but the interesting people you meet with that passion. Not just those who can fly down the extremes - not me - but those who just like the fun and want to get better at this strange thing of balancing on one or two planks on white cold stuff. At the moment I just love trying to get better on the snow and learning about the mountains. The more you learn, the more you respect them.
What else do I do? I am a football referee for the FA, officiating at the lower end of the professional game. My summer interest is cycling: another recent activity. Each year I organise my work's snow club, taking over 50 people away to a variety of resorts. The day job for the moment is market research in the financial sector.
In the winter time I get to the mountains as often as work allows. In the summer I get my hands on whatever dinghy is available to sail and have a go at wakeboarding. At home I run road and cross country with Victoria Park Harriers. Looking forward to getting out on the slopes with other members, sharing a few stories and a cheeky apres ski vin chaud!
Please call me Bob.
I was 45 when I first strapped a pair of planks to my feet but I was totally hooked from that first moment (in Les Deux Alpes) and (until Covid) there's never been a winter, since, without at least one ski trip. I've skied in France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, Sweden and Canada and, since 2008, I've been a Ski Club Rep, Leader, Ambassador and Rep again. I've skied with hundreds of Ski Club Members in the intervening years representing the Club in France, Italy, Switzerland and Canada.
