Forecast today: Clear skies
The resort’s north facing slopes sit between 1,200m and 2,800m, though in reality 80% lie above 2,000m, giving great snow reliability. In addition, the high treeline at over 2,100m means there are some great places to head to in a snowstorm. The once-antiquated lift system has seen investment in recent years and more new lifts are planned to speed up getting around even further, which is welcome as many of the lifts are still slow and old.
There are good beginner areas in the valley at Villeneuve and Le Monêtier, as well as higher up the hill at Serre Ratier. Fast learners will quickly get to enjoy the resort’s longer greens – we’d recommend those at Grande Alpe. Much of the rest of the pisted terrain is ideal for intermediates and there are great options both within and above the treeline. On a powder day, the area comes alive for advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders, particularly in the high bowls at L’Eychauda and beneath the Pic de L’Yret.
Each of the Serre Chevalier villages are based on a simple old centre, with narrow cobbled streets lined by small shops, cosy bars, hotels and traditional restaurants. These give each a very French feel. Briancon is more of a town and its 17th Century, fortified centre is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site – it is well worth exploring one afternoon or on a bad weather day.
There are numerous hotels in the valley, most of which are very reasonably priced and many have excellent facilities for children – the resort is very popular with French families (which also means it is best to avoid the French February half term as it can be crowded). Each village has its own quiet après ski scene, with the action focussed on small local bars and a quiet beer or vin chaud very much the order of the day.

Our Snow Overviews are updated bi-weekly between the start of December and early May every season, providing summaries of snowfall, weather, avalanche risk and other noteworthy meteorological events to help you prepare for your skiing holiday. Check back next winter to stay up-to-date on the latest weather happenings in resort.
Your Ski Club Reps are in resort for one reason only; to help you discover better skiing. They are your personal resort gurus, with years of experience skiing here and around the world, who will bring you and your fellow Members together to conquer the mountain! Stay up to date with everything in resort, find the best spots for an après beer, and ski to your heart’s content.
Our Reps will be in resort between 4 January and 28 March 2025, skiing six days a week – Reps’ day off/changeover day is Saturday in this resort. We are making changes to how registration to ski with the Club in resort works. Thank you for your patience whilst we undertake these updates to the registration process.
I spent several years competing and coaching ski racing, eventually surrendering to the pleasures of off piste / ski mountaineering. Whilst serving in the armed forces I participated in several expeditions to the Alps and Himalayas.
My skiing adventures began at University; since when I have had the great fortune to ski all over the world. Highlights include climbing then skiing from the summit of Mont Blanc and leading a 16 day ski mountaineering expedition from the Matterhorn to Grindelwald and selected for 2 years running (because I speak French!) as Director of an annual 2 week UK ski competition based in Serre Chavallier with around 750 participants. When not skiing for pleasure with people I have a bicycle servicing and repair business in the Midlands.
I have been a passionate skier since I was first introduced to the sport on a school ski holiday, and I enjoy sharing the passion that I have not just for the sport but for the mountains and the mountain environment.
After university I spent a ski season in Montgenèvre and in 1995 I qualified as an English Ski Council Club Instructor working part time at the local dry ski slope for two years. Having met my wife in Val d’Isere we moved to Argentière in the Chamonix Valley where we spent an exciting and active two years. Now based near Salon de Provence in France with my family we ski regularly in Serre Chavalier.
Outside of skiing I am rugby coach to the local under 12 team and a keen mountain biker in the Alpilles
We are still early in the process of assigning Reps for the 2024/25 winter season. Thank you for your patience whilst we make these arrangements.
I completed the Reps course in December 2022 and have so far represented the club in Crans Montana, Cortina (Freshtracks) and in Ischgl last season. My passion for skiing was instilled by my parents at a young age and I have been fortunate enough to ski at a wide range of resorts in Europe and North America as well as sorties to Japan, Argentina, and New Zealand. In this coming season, I am looking forward to repping in Serre Chevalier in the first half of February, 2025 and I am also looking at trips to La Grave in January and Nendaz in March. Outside of snow sports, my main active pursuits are kitesurfing, tennis, golf and (increasingly) yoga. This Winter, I will also be driving an ambulance carrying medical supplies to Ukraine. I look forward to meeting members on the mountain and/or apres-ski.
I completed the repping course in December 2022 having been a ski club member for around 10 years, mainly skiing in Val d'isere where I've skied with some really great people and made some good friends.I started skiing in 1986/7 when I did a season in Val d'isere working in Dicks T Bar having never skied before I turned up looking for a job followed by a season in Meribel for a tour company. I've been lucky to have skied in many resorts around Europe including Val d'isere, 3 valleys, Zermatt and La Grave being some of my favourites and are looking forward to skiing with ski club members in some new resorts. In the early 2000s me and my wife Kathryn worked for Silver Ski for 2 seasons running a chalet without ending in divorce. To keep fit I enjoy cycling both road and mountain and playing golf and walking with my cocker spaniel in and around the North Yorkshire dales and moors close to where I live.
I have been skiing since the 1970's and introduced my children to skiing in Serre Chevalier and have since spent 20 happy Easters there. I worked in finance and was involved with various military charities before retiring in 2022
Hi, as you would expect, I’m passionate about skiing and being in the mountains and I am keen to share this passion with others. I have skied in a wide variety of places, from Aspen to Kyrgyzstan but central to it all is the people I meet, and the memories that we create. I have skied a lot with the club and fallen over on many slopes, but always ended up laughing! I’m looking forward to skiing with likeminded people, whether it is on a blue run or a stood at the top of a gnarly couloir.
