The slopes cover 40km so aren't extensive,

but they have a surprising amount of variety and are renowned for their family-friendly nature. There are some very good learning zones at the foot of the mountain and good progression on to the longer blues of Harschbichl. For more advanced skiers, the long black down the Bauernalm lift is popular and there are some good tree runs after fresh snow.

Recent investment has improved the lift system and investment in snowmaking has improved snow reliability for what is admittedly a low-altitude resort.

St Johann is a friendly, quiet place that is in contrast to the lively, buzzing resort of Kitzbühel nearby. There is a number of excellent, family-focussed hotels and the Panorama Badewelt is a popular swimming pool in the town centre.

Getting here is exceptionally easy, with a quick hour long drive from Innsbruck or a two hour train ride directly to the resort centre.

After a snowy weekend with flurries continuing into the start of this week, the low pressure area formerly known as Storm Darragh continues to move south over the shin of Italy’s boot. In its place, a series of high pressure areas move in off the North Atlantic, promising cold but steady conditions for the remainder of this week and into the weekend.

Conditions will therefore remain fine, dry and bright for much of the rest of this week, the occasional element of cloud cover moving in. Things will remain cold, with the freezing line dropping overnight close to sea level, and daytime temperatures struggling to break -5°C until the end of the week.

A large, dense area of low pressure moving over Scandinavia will manage to sneak through a couple of cracks in the high pressure network and influence weather over Central Europe over the coming weekend, raising the freezing line to around 2,000m in the midday sun and bringing with it an element of snow, too. A few flurries will fall to act as a useful freshener, mostly impacting higher elevations thanks to these milder temperatures.
