Ski Club Experiences (previously Instructor-led Guiding, ILG) are no longer being offered by the Club. You are invited to ski with the Club via our Reps service, with details available here.
Most of the skiing is on high, big mountain terrain above the treeline, with the off piste itineraries the undoubted highlight. For experts the choice is almost limitless, but there are some good on piste routes and the adventure to the far end of the 4 Vallées ski area is well worth the effort – just make sure first that you’re comfortable with long draglifts.
Most of the resort spreads out from the Place Centrale and the base of the Medran gondolas, which form the buzzing hub of what is now a pretty big town.
Luxury chalets and hotels extend up and down the sunny plateau – so be prepared to walk a little bit to get to the slopes or back from town in the evening. The eating out options – both on and off the slopes – are extensive but can also be slightly on the expensive side, even by Swiss standards.
The nursery slopes are very central and the ski school’s facilities are good, so this is a good place to bring the little ones, especially as nanny services are aplenty. Off the slopes there is plenty to keep children busy, with the sledge run in La Tsoumaz particularly popular – it is one of the longest in the whole of Switzerland.
The Verbier après scene is as vibrant as it gets – but do try and make the most of happy hours and just be careful not to get too carried away as drinks are not cheap! The action starts on the slopes at Chalet Carlsberg and the yurts of Bar 1936 before moving on to two of the best resort bars in the Alps – Farinet and Pub Mont Fort. T-Bar is also popular with British visitors and hosts the Ski_Club’s_nightly_social_hour. If you make it out later then the famous Farm Club is the place to be seen.
Opens: Saturday 7 December 2024
Closes: Monday 21 April 2025
Updated for 2024/25
There is plenty of excellent skiing in Verbier, but anyone beyond beginner level will want the whole 4 Vallees area pass – the difference in price is less than 10 CHF for a six-day adult pass, so the full pass provides good value skiing. Children born in 2018 and later, and seniors born 1947 and earlier ski for free.

The connecting lifts were closed, so there was Lac de Veaux and La Chaux to ski. Slopes were well groomed. Across to Savoleyre and to the helipad meadows, which were very tricky.
Late lunch at Chez Simon and back to Verbier.
Foggy in the morning, with some brighter patches. Gusts of wind.

Updated 20/12
The timeline for Christmas week snow is accelerated massively as a huge, dense area of low pressure gets swept in on the Jetstream to cover much of central and northern Europe as the weekend continues. Temperatures will remain cold through this weekend, with a freezing line dropping to 500m on Sunday and, as a result temperatures of -10°C being the norm at 2,000m.
Snow will first arrive in flurries on Saturday, but, in the west of the country, it is Sunday where things really shift through the gears. At least a foot of snow is expected down at Zermatt, initially over higher ground only thanks to a rare uptick in the freezing line, but eventually reaching all elevations as the freezing line falls away, continuing on into Monday when an additional 20cmcan be expected.
In the east of the region, things will turn slightly bonkers. This same Sunday snowfall falls as half-a-metre in most places and, instead of drying up as the new week begins, it will continue to fall across Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (Christmas day), too. A further 45cm can be expected down on Monday and another 30cm on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Expect the avalanche risk to tick up to High or Very High (4 or 5) over the coming days as a result. Unfortunately whiterisk.ch don’t forecast in advance like the French do, so it is difficult to ascertain with any certainty what it might do. Please check your local forecasts carefully using the links below and plan any backcountry and off piste travel carefully in the coming days.

Alistair passed the 2006 Ski Club course and is looking foward to cramming in as much skiing as his employers will allow over the next few years. Alistair has skied with the club all over Europe inc St Anton, Zermatt, Verbier, Saas Fee & Meribel. He originally learned to ski on Cairngorm at the age of 13 and has skied as much as money, time and luck has permitted him over the last 33 years. Alistair completed his first repping slot over Christmas and New Year in Avoriaz for the 07/08 season which he thoroughly enjoyed and has kept going every year since!! Latest ski developments for Alistair have involved ski touring trips to Norway & Iceland.
I skied as a teenager for the first time in Scotland and was hooked. As a first year student I followed up with a bus trip to Mayrhofen, skiing great, travel exhausting. Every year since I have found time to ski and enjoy the mountains and my enthusiasm has not waned. Latterly, I have begun ski racing, Inferno, AICC, Macmillan Cup. It's great fun!
I was first introduced to skiing at 14 on a school trip to Bulgaria where leather boots were the norm. it was all very basic but I was hooked and have loved skiing ever since. I’ve skied most of Europe and love returning to Verbier more than anywhere else. I also enjoy ski touring and I am heading up to the Norwegian Artic later this season to explore the mountains around Finnmark, where there are no lifts or helicopters. I also enjoy walking and mountain biking in the Alps in the summer months. Looking forward to skiing with you in January.
I was lucky enough to get taken skiing as a kid and loved it from the start. The mountains have always been an incredibly special place for me and I'm always mesmerised by their beauty. I'm new rep for the ski club and am really supportive of everything they're doing to build a great community of responsible and like minded skiers. Look forward to seeing you on the slopes!
I have been skiing since the age of 8. I completed the Joint Service Downhill Ski instructors course in the Army and also did some ski racing during my 10 years in the Army. Since my Army days ( a few years ago now! 1994) I have skied and snow boarded in multiple resorts across Europe, plus one resort in America and two resorts in New Zealand. I often organize ski trips and guide friends and families around resorts. I love to meet new people and have shared experiences. I have a passion for the outdoors and have been known to free camp on top of mountains! (in the summer). My other interests include sailing, tennis, diving, motorcycling and charity work. Looking forward to skiing with you in the future.
I have been skiing since the age of 18 and have enjoyed many seasons in the Alps instructing and leading ski trips. Having taken a break from this to concentrate on my career and my daughter's skiing I was taken by a friend on a ski club Fresh Tracks trip to Chamonix. I enjoyed it so much I joined as a leader and haven't looked back since! I have skied extensively over the last 35 years in Europe, North America and Japan. As well as my passion for skiing I love Cricket, Squash and Sailing and am trying to love Golf!
I have been a member of the Ski Club, for over twenty five years, a rep & leader for about twenty years, my favourite Ski areas for off Piste skiing is the Chamonix valley with Alagna &Champoluc Ski areas, for on Piste definitely has to be the Dolomites. Joining the Ski Club has to be the best thing I've ever done, meeting and skiing with so many like minded people, from all walks of life, has and still is a true pleasure, so come and join me, have fun with great skiing, what ever the conditions, on and off the slopes!
