When I was asked to test out the Peak Performance Vertical Gore-Tex Pro outfit, I was stoked – what skier or snowboarder doesn’t love this legendary brand? At first, I wasn’t sure about the colourway and didn’t think I could pull it off like the girls on the freeride tour (I’m looking at you, Hedvig Wessel). But as soon as I put it on, I loved it! The first day I skied in it was at the La Clusaz SIGB Ski Test. It rained from 9 to 4, and I stayed bone dry, while the other testers complained about wet thermals.
Having worn a lot of different Gore-Tex jackets over the years, not many have kept me dry for that long, so hats off to you, Peak! Also, coming from someone who is cold 24/7 and wears six layers even on spring ski days, this shell outfit is seriously impressive in terms of warmth.
What I particularly love about this outfit is the fit. Coming from a ski racing background, I’ve got thighs, and this outfit is not only flattering but also super comfy. The jacket’s length and the dropped hem on the sides are perfect for skiing, getting on and off chairlifts, shredding the pistes, or even touring up into the backcountry – plus, it’s great for climbing onto tables at après! It’s really manoeuvrable and has got some stretch, which is something I often find lacking in most ski outfits – especially considering skiing is a sport that requires a lot of movement!
This jacket has been developed in close collaboration with pro skiers, and you can really tell. A few standout features that matter to me are the long, articulated sleeves to fit over gloves, the BIG hood that fits over a helmet (vital on powder days), and the clever colour placement – there’s not too much white in spots that get grubby, like the knees and elbows. So, thank you, Peak!
