Overview

A ski and lifestyle experience in the Austrian region of Tirol unlike any other, Ischgl and the surrounding villages of Galtür, Kappl and See offer pure pleasures from November through May.

Ischgl is all about more – and lots of it. There’s more by day: its splendid expanse of skiing blankets 239 km of groomed slopes and near endless off-piste with fast modern lifts over two countries (Austria and Switzerland). And there’s more by night: off the mountain, the delights heat up at apres-ski and continue long after dark. Indeed, no resort loves to entertain people like Ischgl — this lifestyle metropolis of the Tirolean Alps guarantees high-calibre entertainment all winter long. Located in a sunny Alpine valley between the Silvretta and Verwall mountains, Ischgl’s neighbouring villages of Galtür, Kappl and See glow with quiet charm and warm hospitality.

Away from the piste, a scenic 73 km network of skate and classic cross-country trails roll through the Silvretta countryside: use of the trails is free-of-charge. Winter walkers explore peaceful valleys and can even take a shopping trip into Switzerland’s duty-free Samnaun. From horse-drawn sled rides and snowshoeing, to paragliding, ice skating, curling and sledging — Ischgl’s night-time 7 km toboggan run is one of the longest in the Alps. For daredevils, there’s the spectacular 2 km valley descent on the Skyfly zipwire.

Après-ski and nightlife designed to dazzle

Save some energy for Ischgl’s legendary après-ski scene — nowhere else compares. From rustic huts – Kuhstall gets everyone dancing ski boots and all and Schatzi starts the dancing for you — to sophisticated stylish bars (the Champagne Hut pretty much says it all) and a clubbing scene that ranks among the world’s greatest. It’s all complemented by top-class restaurants in a range of styles. Ischgl nightlife extraordinaire is found at Pacha and Posthörndl with DJs and dancing, sparklers and glitter a-go-go. This, you will certainly discover, is only the beginning.

The Top of the Mountain Opening and Closing Concerts have become one of the classics among the concerts in the Alps, and yet it continues to surprise every year. At the end of November, Ischgl opens the winter season with the top-class open-air concert. In front of the dreamlike backdrop of the Alpine lifestyle metropolis, numerous superstars of the music world have already put the audience in the right mood.

Previous performers include Kings of Leon, Mariah Carey, Elton John, Robbie Williams, Muse and Lenny Kravitz.

And with the choice of the neighbouring villages of Galtür, Kappl and See where family-owned inns sit alongside comfortable wellness hotels, as well as Ischgl’s renowned choice of accommodation, deciding is the only hard part. Ischgl is home to more than 80 hotels that have earned four and five-star ratings — guaranteeing everything a holiday needs for fabulous Alpine nights and memorable snow-covered days.

Ski Area

The season will be off to a fast start, thanks to recently-added speedy lifts. Moving at an impressive six metres per second, the comfortable and ergonomically designed six-seat hooded Velilleck F1 chairlift is the fastest in the area. Visnitz N2, an eight-seater chairlift in Samnaun, provides further convenience and comfort. These new lift routes have enabled Ischgl’s famous ski routes — Gold and Silver Smugglers’ Circuits — to be extended too. Now the Gold Smugglers’ Circuit is one of the longest ski circuits in the world, covering a total of 61,8km. On the Silver Smugglers’ Circuit, winter sports fans can ride the new Velilleck chairlift and tackle a 41,4 km adventure. Many untouched gullies and descents are directly accessible from further lifts such as the Piz Val Gronda cable car, opening onto wide slopes of the Fimba and down 900m to the Gampenalpe.

Tirolean Fun

The snow park in Ischgl – right next to the Idalp – welcomes thrill-seekers. Jumpers and freestylers get to look forward to two park-areas, a funline and a bagjump. Racers and speed addicts to the speedline in the middle of it all. That’s how you’ll have even more fun on your ski day at the Silvretta Arena and plenty of amazing holiday memories to tell your friends about.
