Expansive and modern with an impressive 284 km of rolling groomed slopes, there’s a lot to discover at SkiWelt in the mountainous region of Tirol. No fewer than 90 state-of-the-art lifts lift snow lovers to some of the Tirol’s most beloved mountain huts. Indeed, there are a whopping 80 family-run Alpine huts serving delicious dishes and drinks such as homemade Kaiserschmarrn and fragrant mulled wine, crispy schnitzel and spicy Gulasch, and many also feature exciting events with live music, DJs and special entertainment.
All these cosy lunch and après-ski stops are easily accessed from the area’s clutch of pretty villages – Brixen im Thale, Ellmau, Going, Hopfgarten, Itter, Kelchsau, Scheffau, Söll and Westendorf. It’s a mouthful that guarantees family and friends’ skiing at its best. Look up, way up… 70 glittering 3,000 m peaks surround and a world of snow lies at your feet. One of Austria’s largest ski areas is laced with hundreds of wide gentle slopes including rolling blue runs and long valley descents making SkiWelt a firm favourite with all ages.
The SkiWelt area is a favourite of families for so many reasons – from a tasty menu of winter activities to near-endless choice of wide, groomed ski runs. During Family Ski Weeks, children up to 15 years ride for free between December 7-20 and from March 14-April 13, when one parent purchases a SkiWelt ski pass valid for at least three days. Further savings are on the cards during Super Ski Weeks, when accommodation prices are slashed by up to 25 percent on 3-14 days packages. Super Ski Weeks run from December 7-20 and March 14-April 13 at selected hotels.
Fun on the slopes starts early in Brixen and Westendorf. Beginning late January, on each Thursday enthusiastic early birds have first dibs on SkiWelt slopes: 22 km of freshly groomed runs are yours to enjoy from 7.30 a.m. After your first runs, why not explore the signposted SkiWelt Tour, a clockwise or anti-clockwise ski route that begins and ends in any of the SkiWelt villages. The route is between 70 km-80 km depending on which direction you choose. You can also extend the SkiWelt Tour by incorporating a valley run or two along the way. With 21 valley runs to choose from you’ll certainly find a suitable one.
At SkiWelt children are loved – and the joys and the travails of parenting are understood. The Young Family ticket offers one ticket for two parents with children up to three years of age. The ticket must be bought for at least 3 days and can be used alternately by one or the other parent letting you both share the fun and the relaxation.

Austrian ski resorts have a well-earned reputation for lifts that are modern, fast and comfortable. SkiWelt is no different – in fact, they are proud to be at the forefront of improvement and investment. Here’s a little peak at the newest developments.
SkiWelt recently welcomed the Fleidingbahn, the Zinsbergbahn, the Hexenwasser and the Salvistabahn. The first: a comfortable, heated-seat eight-person chairlift. The second: a combined cabin-chairlift with an upwards extension of 400 m to the Filzbodenbahnstation. The third: the ‘bewitching’ Hexenwasser, in which each 10-seater gondola enchants with unique motifs. Finally: the Salvistabahn, a new state-of-the-art 10-person gondola in SkiWelt Hopfgarten-Itter.
Faster, more convenient, the new eight-person Fleidingbahn chairlift delivers SkiWelt’s top viewing point with its new panoramic terrace and magnificent Alpine vistas. Heated seats and bubbles for weather protection are just the start: once you’ve arrived at the top – the highest point of SkiWelt – the top station’s panoramic terrace boasts impressive 360-degree summit views over the Wilder Kaiser, the Grossglockner and the Zillertal Alps.
The new combination Zinsbergbahn with chairlift and gondola makes the SkiWelt Brixen – especially popular with families, schools and beginners – even more attractive. No more stress for beginners riding the chairlift: separate access for kids ski schools allows instructors to accompany their pupils in one of the 10 comfortable gondolas. The combination cabin-and-chairlift features 10 large gondolas with panoramic views, as well as super-comfortable eight-person chairlifts with bubbles to protect against the weather. The first of its kind not only in the entire Kitzbühel Alps, this investment of 15.5 million euros replaces a four-seater which opened in 1987 as Europe’s first chairlift with a protective bubble.
Nor have environmental aspects been neglected: All 90 lifts of the SkiWelt are 100% operated with eco-electricity. For example, the Filzbodenbahn mountain station produces green electricity all year round via a large photovoltaic installation. Similarly, the Brixen Sonnenlift, or Sun Lift, is powered exclusively by solar energy. Boasting a large photovoltaic system, around 12,000 kilowatt-hours are generated per year – it even produces a small surplus, which is fed into the electricity grid.
A further new gondola, the Hexenwasser – or Witch’s Water – is almost as beautiful as a flight on the witch’s broom. Each cabin is ‘bewitched’ with its own motif.
Finally, the new Salvista cable car with its panoramic gondolas is 650 metres longer than before, opening up previously unknown prospects on the Kleine Salve. New pistes were also created during the course of rebuilding.
