On Snow Experience

This trip includes six days with mountain guides. You’ll be split into groups of 6/7 based on your ski profile. When participating in an off piste holiday you should be prepared to do some ski touring at some point during the trip. Where possible the lift system will be used to access off piste terrain, however if you need to venture a bit further afield in order to access the best off piste conditions, then your guide may suggest ski touring. This will all be dependent upon conditions and the guides you have on your trip. It is essential that guests have the correct ski profile before booking their holiday, please see our ‘View dates and prices’ tab for specific holiday information.

I took to skiing in my early twenties and absolutely fell in love with the sport. Since then I have been fortunate to ski all over the world from South America, India, Canada, Norway, Finland as well as the usual European destinations. I have been a ski club leader since 2010 and have led groups of all levels in all terrains. I love meeting the members ensuring that they get the best out of their time on snow and in resort.

In 2016 undertook my Level 1 and 2 BASI Ski instructor course and spent a full season in the 3 valleys, however I have to say that I have to listen to my ageing body more and more and the course definitely showed me that I am no longer 19 and my wild ambitions of being a full time ski instructor should be parked. I look forward to meeting you all and have a great season whatever you are up to!

After having worked for Ski School Arlberg and Ski School Zürs for 15 seasons I started my own company Arlberg Guides with a small team of friends.

Until now have been working as a freelance guide for about 20 seasons.

In total I have been guiding about 35 seasons at the Arlberg region and also as a heliskiing guide in Canada, New Zealand, Sochi and Kamchatka.

Skiing has always been a big passion of mine as I grew up at the Arlberg and it’s a pleasure to be guiding skiers from all over the world at our famous resort offering numerous wonderful off piste runs.

I have also written two guide books in English about the Arlberg region for ski touring and various off piste routes with pictured descriptions. Available to order in the UK at backcountry books.

I have been lucky enough to have started skiing when I was 4, when my Dad dragged me along the pistes. Since then I have spent as much time as I can in the mountains. I really enjoy playing around in the powder and meeting new people on the slopes. Austria is one of my favourite destinations, but I'm keen to try anywhere new. While the seasons stop me skiing, I enjoy spending time with my five year old son, as well as cycling, running, surfing and squash.

  • The local slopes around St Anton were previously more than enough to keep most skiers and snowboarders happy.

However, when four new gondolas were built in 2016/17 to link it to the rest of the Ski Arlberg area and the resorts of Lech and Zürs, the options multiplied. It is now part of Austria’s largest linked ski area, is located in one of the snowiest corners of the Alps and has something for everyone – what’s not to like? St Anton is a big resort town, spreading out along the valley. There are accommodation options for most budgets, but the closer you stay to the action and the Galzigbahn, the more expensive your room is likely to be. Après ski is a major attraction here and in the form of Mooserwirt and the Krazy Kangaruh, St Anton has two of the world’s most famous post-skiing bars.

With over 200km of deep snow runs and one of the most snowsure regions of France, St Anton is a fantastic choice for all types of skier.

    Pros and cons

    • Fantastic off piste terrain and huge network of ungroomed ski routes
    • Vast linked area with Lech and Zürs thanks to the Flexenbahn
    • One of the world’s top ski resorts for après ski
    • Loads of accommodation to choose from
    • Some pistes can get dangerously crowded
    • Not ideal for beginners
    • Lift system has improved but there are still some bottlenecks
    • Snow quality can suffer from sun on the lower slopes

It is a condition of booking that you have valid and adequate snowsports insurance. It is your responsibility to ensure your policy provides cover for all the activities that you participate in during your holiday.

We offer a Ski Club Insurance policy which provides the cover we require for all bookings. This policy can be found here: Ski Club Travel Insurance – Ski Club Of Great Britain

If you decide to purchase insurance elsewhere, it is your responsibility to ensure that your policy provides cover as that of the Ski Club Insurance policy. The policy of insurance should provide cover for personal injury, death, medical and repatriation costs in the countries which you intend to visit, together with cover for loss of baggage and valuables, personal liability, delay, cancellation, curtailment, missed departure and legal expenses. The policy should also include cover against losses caused by the effects or consequences of Covid-19.

Due to the type of holidays that you will be booking with us, we also advise that your policy should include skiing off-piste without a guide. Please note, insurance premiums must be paid at the same time as booking in order for the package holiday or single service cancellation cover to be effective. It is also advised to keep your insurance details with you while you are on your holiday. If you choose to travel without adequate insurance cover, we will not be liable for any losses howsoever arising, in respect of which insurance cover would otherwise have been available.

Check your passport meets these requirements before you travel.

NB: Starting in 2025 (Date TBC) travel authorisation will be required to travel withing Europe – find out more here ETIAS (europa.eu)
