Married to Karen with two children (one boarder and one skier) I love being in the mountains. My first taste of skiing was on a school trip to Scotland. The weather was challenging but I certainly caught the bug I followed this up soon after with a holiday with a friend. What memories - two 16 year olds away from home on a skiing holiday in Hinterglemm, Austria. There was an abundance of snow and we danced on the tables in our ski boots after the last run down!

That was all along time ago but my love for the mountains and skiing has never diminished and now the children have grown up I can take advantage to get away skiing more often; enjoying the slopes, the scenery and meeting new people. My other passion is squash though I have to say the standard is not that high as I only took it up a few years ago. I am looking forward to seeing you in resort.

  • Wengen sits at the heart of the Jungfrau Region above the Lauterbrunnen valley, opposite Mürren and on the other side of the Männlichen ridge from Grindelwald.

It is perhaps best known for hosting the famous Lauberhorn downhill race, but the ski area is in fact an intermediate paradise – almost 90% of the resort’s runs are rated blue or red. The Jungfrau Region is home to 213km of pistes and 49 lifts (most of which are now fast) – so read on for the Ski Club’s comprehensive guide to this fantastic Swiss ski resort.

    Pros and cons

    • Amazing scenery and sunny location
    • Small, traditional, nearly traffic-free Alpine village
    • Wide range of slopes for beginner and intermediate skiers
    • Lots to do away from the slopes
    • Limited terrain for experts unless there has been fresh snow
    • Resort run can be closed despite lots of snowmaking
    • Trains to slopes are slow and the Männlichen cable car can have long queues
    • Getting to/from Mürren for a day trip can take some time

    Arenas Resort Victoria-Lauberhorn

Our hotel is the fantastic 3* Arenas Resort Victoria-Lauberhorn, offering a wellness centre and pool to relax in after a long day on the slopes. You will be staying on a half-board basis, enabling you to enjoy the excellent food from the hotel’s restaurant. This holiday is on a twin occupancy basis.

It is a condition of booking that you have valid and adequate snowsports insurance. It is your responsibility to ensure your policy provides cover for all the activities that you participate in during your holiday.
We offer a Ski Club Insurance policy which provides the cover we require for all bookings. This policy can be found here: Ski Club Travel Insurance – Ski Club Of Great Britain
If you decide to purchase insurance elsewhere, it is your responsibility to ensure that your policy provides cover as that of the Ski Club Insurance policy. The policy of insurance should provide cover for personal injury, death, medical and repatriation costs in the countries which you intend to visit, together with cover for loss of baggage and valuables, personal liability, delay, cancellation, curtailment, missed departure and legal expenses. The policy should also include cover against losses caused by the effects or consequences of Covid-19.
Due to the type of holidays that you will be booking with us, we also advise that your policy should include skiing off-piste without a guide. Please note, insurance premiums must be paid at the same time as booking in order for the package holiday or single service cancellation cover to be effective. It is also advised to keep your insurance details with you while you are on your holiday. If you choose to travel without adequate insurance cover, we will not be liable for any losses howsoever arising, in respect of which insurance cover would otherwise have been available.

    • have an ‘expiry date’ at least 3 months after the date you plan to leave the Schengen area

Check your passport meets these requirements before you travel.

NB: Starting in 2025 (Date TBC) travel authorisation will be required to travel withing Europe – find out more here ETIAS (europa.eu)
